Does anyone know if a 400 DPS tank is good enuf for all level 4's or at least most of them? Just wondering because i can either go 400 DPS tank and cap stable or run out of cap in 36 minutes and have a 471 DPS tank. I would prefer the cap stable option if it will work. Thanks

It should be ok most times.

If you got gun boat, your main problem will be Sansha and Gurista factions. Sansha because of their tracking disruption which may cause you not kill rats fast enough, which will allow rats to beat on you longer, which may require bigger tank (or not, you will have to find out the hard way). Gurista because of their crazy missile range, you can not run away from it and they break the targeting lock so you just sit there waiting for their EW to end while they keep beating on you.

If you got missile boat, you only need to worry about Gurista faction.

Go for 471 with 36m cap.

In 36m you will have the mission finished over several times, so basically your choice is: have 400dps tank for the whole mission or have 471dps tank for the whole mission.

Depends on proper management of triggers and the ship's damage output. I just set up and tested a Navy Scorpion for my wife that has an omni-tank just shy of 400. There were a couple of missions where at times they were eating into the shields a bit, but I was always able to whittle away at the incoming DPS in plenty of time to equalize.

It's all about your damage.

I've a boat with a 400 dps tank that lasts a about a minute and a half. I get away with it because the damage it puts out is nothing short of insane. The new HUD changes to show you which ships are doing the most damage helps too, if it's not a trigger and your tank is under pressure, shoot them first. Hell that's probably sage advice anyway, I just cant be bothered, stuff just melts these days. Personally, 400 tank for me is quite enough to just pulse the repper to get some buffer back as and when I see fit. Some missions I run close to the wire but not many.

However seeing as you're asking, I must assume you're new at this and as such what I would suggest is this: Overtank at first. Once you've hit that point, pull off one tanking mod at a time and replace with a mod that gets more damage out. This will allow you to reach an equilibrium where the tank still holds but you're doing things much faster.

For example when I first started doing...oh...level 3s in my first days (relatively speaking) of eve, my lows were chock full of tank mods (I'd rather have been slow than lose the boat in those days), as my skills and confidence grew and these were swapped for BCUs over time.

In short, the amount of tank required is inversely proportional to your damage out. Dead rats do 0 DPS.

Depends largely on 2 factors;
DPS
And 400/471 omni or mission specific?

Mission specific its probably not enough. <900 DPS its probably not enough.

You don't need to be cap stable for missions, they don't take that long. I use an Apocalypse that is 4 mins cap stable without afterburner on and its fine. I use T2 tank mods, T1 weapons with faction ammo. My advice is T2 damage upgrades, tank and drones. Don't worry too much about cap unless you're having to run your repairer 24/7.

Yes, it is.

Like others have already pointed out does it depend on how fast you can kill NPCs, how fast you fly and from what distance you shoot. My mission runners tank anything from 180-600 eHP/s, fly with 350-1000 m/s, shoot from 5km-100km range and deal 900-1300 DPS.

There used to be an old rule of thumb that your combined tank and damage Should equal 1000 for lvl4s. If you're Inexperienced over tank.

It would depend on skills... I've seen a guy spend 6 hours to do a level 4 Cry. The same genius didn't want to fleet with me because he didn't want to share bounties LOL
