Don't think any of the X series or the new Star Citizen or whatever will draw me away from Eve. But I do worry about the loss of potential players. I doubt it will draw people away from Eve, but It might stop potential player who haven't taken the plunge yet.

I tried Startrek online once. You could walk in stations, land on the ground etc.

Most of the time I was like: cant i stay in my ship to buy that quad-cannon? I'm in a hurry you know? People to kill, ISK to make... wait

6V battle actually was like: 0.8% of the players, less than 10% the concurrent server population any given day, gather and do Sumzin Big and hereby demonstrate that the game is totally completely about them and nobody else... in their opinion.

Yet none of them would have any game to play without all the players who pay the bills, all those who play alone in hisec and are treated like misfits by CCP.

And yet these same misfits allow themselves to be treated this way by CCP.

How many threads have came and went on this forum concerning walking in stations? Any time one of the longer running threads begins fading, some "new player" creates a new a thread and practically repeats the same tired lines "If CCP would create avatar gaming, then their subs would increase drastically!" Then there is a list of potential ideas on what would be involved; yet if you have followed CCP's stance over the years, these same ideas (black market, drugs, etc.) have been pushed aside and left to die on their own. The old CCP that would have embraced such seedier sides of life are now replaced by a group that is driving the future of the game towards the generally accepted society. So even gambling might be a touchy subject with them and they're stalling to avoid it. I am not sure about the rest of the world, but around here, one must be at least 21 years old to enter the casino. Yet CCP has the game set for a teen rating. Some bad press that Little Junior used mommy's credit card to purchase plex that he lost in a virtual casino within an online game...?

CCP knows that offering a few bread crumbs of potential avatar game play will keep the hardcore walking in stations crowd here, paying their monthly or yearly fee. Really, how many of you - I'm look at you Ishtanchuk - have claimed boldly and loudly that if CCP does not add avatar gaming, then you and your subscriptions are gone? A glimmer of hope, some small fan fest video, and then, "Sorry, priorities changed here at CCP - we might get around to it again "soon"." And all the doom and gloom that without avatar gaming, then Eve is dead arises once more. That is a kicker for me - there is no other ~potential~ ideas that could possibly keep Eve going forward and stronger than _just_ avatar gaming? No avatar equates to no future, yet here is the game looking ahead to another decade with avatar gaming on some distant back burner.

Do not get me wrong - I would love to see some "good" avatar gaming that has relevance to the rest of the Eve universe. But I highly doubt CCP is going to introduce a dark side, much less a "Blade Runner" type atmosphere. The "cold, dark, harsh universe" is no longer here - at least to me. Look at all the changes CCP has introduced to make life easier and all the safety nets and switches so mistakes are avoided instead of pounced upon as in the past. And that is where CCP is running in square circles. Expand to bring in a social media angle and (based upon an online article I read,) people will leave (eventually) in droves similar to how Facebook and that ilk is passe now - a flash in the pan event overall. Or expand to allow the safety of the station to be breached and players will leave in droves because of the constant ganking involved because people rather just socialize with their avatars and nothing more.

So CCP is following the path of least resistance - offer hope that one day avatar gaming might be here, but doing nothing more than that - offering hope.

Just my thoughts, again, on the matter.

CCP implemented the whole captains quarters because of all the stationwalking whining. Then all hell broke loose. And you're right; every now and then the exact same thread with the exact same arguments comes along.

Fortunately for those who dont give a **** about avatars walking around like some Sims in space crap ; CCP apologized for all the non usefull crap and started listening to its fanbase again. EVE players that is. Not the sims in space dudes.

I hate to say it, but your probably right. I've been playing for nearing five years now, and I am starting to get bored. Not because of a lack of Avatar content (let's face it, Eve kept me interested for at least 4 years before I started getting bored), but just because every expansion since Crucible has been a little disappointing. Not massively disappointing, just not quite as good as the one before. Each one has expanded on an area of the game that is really only for a small number of people. Inferno was the whole faction warfare thing, which is great but I had already participated in faction warfare and had no intention of going back to try it again. Retribution was a bit of an exception because I loved the bounties thing, just because It could make me a small amount of my ISK back from PvP, but Odyssey was horrendous. A boring bunch of tweaks that didn't really affect me in the slightest, and I've never really enjoyed exploration and the new crap mechanic didn't change that.

But I've already invested too much. I keep telling myself I'll quit if I don't like what they say is going to be in the Winter expansion, but I probably wont. CCP have me trapped.

Also, CCP didn't release the CQs because anyone whined. They released them because they proposed releasing them and everyone thought it was a good idea. People like you only started popping up after Incarna flopped, when CCP hadn't released anything like they said they would and they had spent the past year and a half developing the Carbon engine with few visible results. Incarnageddon had more to do with CCP's general lack of organization and a general disrespect for their playerbase, not because they wanted to implement WiS.

People like you just use it as an excuse to whine and ***** on the forums about other people's ideas and gameplay styles. No one wants the sims, they want Dues Ex in space, or Bladerunner. Dark, gritty, violent and dangerous. Or... at least two of those things.

AAAARRRGGHH.... WHAT A NIGHTMARE.... Shocked

Substitute Mall for Jita and Clothes for ammo and shipmods....

I'm just sayin' you are already playing that game right now, and there are those who never undock because of said market play. But there are possibilities for cool stuff in WiS that right now are not in the game, and it might attract more people to at least try and see what this thing is all about.

And if - and i do not know whether or not - any competitor is doing anything like this CCP would be wise to gauge the current players reaction to more of this.

Because i do believe a lot of those people that 'revolted' against the cash shop before might not even play anymore in the numbers one might think they do. A lot of people are and will be unloyal scrubs with a thing called RL or new shiney 'other games'. Why i myself had hiatuses from Eve Online due to other priorities.

I was around, and i do not like cash shops in general, but if CCP just drops that stuff right into the trash and does something cool with WiS i am all for it. (providing it includes social interaction and items will degrade creating a market)

I actually left the game and played other stuff (notoriously Planetside 2) for several months, and before that I had almost stopped login in.

Spaceship content is terribly lacking to me and to other players (lacks soloability, casual friendliness and non-nullsec endgame). Avatars promised to add something that was not related to spaceships -something totally new and different.

Now CCP has abandoned avatars and spaceship content has stalled. Even worst, CCP no longer dares to stray from the nightmareish complexity of "core" gameplay and bang their heads on walls for six months just to restat a few f**** ships without breaking them.

Rather than develop in other directions and let players make up new ways to play, we are now entangled on iteration upon iteration of the same old ****. Even worst, the remaining players like it this way. Everyone is gonna get his pet restat, hoorray! Roll

But then, what interests me now in 2013, is the same it was in 2008. Along the way, I've lost things i liked to do, the hope to do other things I could like to do, and my trust on CCP. They have become the company that don't. They don't dream. Don't dare. Don't change. They don't go somewhere. And so they aren't going anywhere.

The players already decided. After incarna there was a massive drop in subs but since CCP wisely decided to refocus on real Eve content subs have gone up every quarter. This is a good thing and I have to wonder about people who want to harm the game by returning to the summer of rage days.

Odyssey are those green circles on my screen, which nobody bothers to warp to, and the red ones nobody cares to scan for. They're pretty the same when i first exit the station and when I'm back to it. Untouched.

I've been clearing green circles with a Noctis -but not long, they're an awful way to waste your time for such puny reward that is only worth the LOLz of actually ratting in a Noctis. Roll

I'm paying 9.16 euros per month to play EVE, rather than 13-some as I used to do. And that's exactly why I am here, running missions after two years without doing it.

the last thing we need are more reasons for people to stay in station.

Fully agree that all functionality must be doubled as for example it is now (you can use Neocom if you want to do something with your ship or you can use UI from CQs, etc)

You've done it again. You're not the vast majority, your just a sad alt of a dumb hick who has no killboard and is afraid to post with his main. Just from counting comments in these threads, the people who want WiS outweigh the opposition. And from my experience being in null corps, lowsec pirate corps, highsec corps, WH corps, the same can be said of people in game.

This vast majority you speak of is a figment of your limited imagination.

Here is how you can prove you are right: round up all the current players who want to play Barbies in Space and cancel your accounts. If there are really that many of you CCP will stop everything else and make it happen.

Here is how I can prove I am right: Look at the population increases of the last two years since they put roleplaying trash on the back burner.

If all the people who wanted WiS eventually implemented cancelled their accounts Eve would die instantly. So that's not going to happen because most people actually care about the future of Eve.

As for you proving your right, the population increase over two expansions proves nothing. The Eve playerbase has grown every year like clockwork. After Incarna, the population was still higher than the previous year. They had to make cuts on jobs because they didn't meet their predictions, as a result of Incarna being a terrible expansion. The biggest population increase Eve has seen was after Crucible, the expansion that implemented the three remaining captains quarters. The second biggest rise in player subs followed retribution, where they had a really really good advertising campaign. No one know what happened after Odyssey because they haven't said, so your speaking out of your ass.

Check your facts. Every post you've made so far makes you looked stupider than you were before.

With people like you championing WiS I rest assured that the game will remain safe from it.
