Paid name change. Still think its a good idea.

It's offered in Blizzard's World of Warcraft and that is a paid subscription MMO. I would do it simply because I come with decent names sometimes after the fact and in this case came up with a better name for my toon but can't rename her. I would gladly pay to do that, since I like the name I came up with better than the one that I initially came up with when I created her, since I wasn't feeling inspired then but I did want to experience EVE and not waste my trial period.

Please no. Not now, not ever. The biggest winners will be the scammers and similar.

But as far as "oh no I ****** up" you could always try and petition. But usually they don't change unless it's a spelling error or capitalization.

Well yes, but only for older players who subscribed when there was no First name and Surname during the creation of Character. And this would be only one time only.

scammed somebody or otherwise burned your character? no problem just rename!

trading characters is bad enough as it is.

As long as your old names all showed up in your info (like corp history), i dont really have an issue with it.
I have a purchased toon or 2 that have really crappy names...

In EVE the reputation you make for yourself sticks with you. This is not WoW, you have to live with your choices here.

- You get kicked
- You try to join another corp but word has been out already that you can't be trusted
- Rename!

Whenever you come up with an idea first think how it would benefit yourself.
Then think how it would benefit the masses.
Then think how it would get twisted and abused by the more nefarious members of the game.

I can see someone getting into an incursion corp, deliberately letting the super shiny fleet get wiped out, collecting the billions of mods that drop, getting kicked from corp, changing name and then repeating.

It's also going to take away a one of the biggest negatives with buying chars for isk

For all the reasons posted in the other namechange threads that the OP didn't search for.

Jint Hikaru - Miner / Salvager / Explorer / SpaceBum In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

Given the number of scamming characters that are sold in the character bazaar without issue, I'd say they are already winning with almost no effort.

The only way this should ever be considered by CCP is if the old character name was clearly visible on the show info details of that character like your corp history is (so you couldn't erase it's past history with a name change).

Not saying I support the OPs topic but the scammers will benefit argument is invalid because there is already the Character Bazaar which already is a possibility for someone who burned his name to evade any possible consequences. So it is all a matter of pricing this "service".

Yeah, would be entirely true if there was no Character Bazaar and people would be limited to 1 Character on 1 Account.

Like I mentioned above: already possible with the step of Character selling in between which could potentially even turn a profit on itself. So if the price of say 4 PLEX would be chosen for a Namechange it would be the same like 2 Character transfers

Anyway:

It would involve CCP coding new stuff. I dare to say that there are more urgent matters than this one :P
