My idea/request is very simple- both in idea and in execution:

Have a toggle in the Graphics Menu for space to appear as it actually does- black, with stars adding color.

The false-color nebulae are great, but as an astronomy buff it's off-putting to see them alongside a true-color station/ship/planet.
It should be very easy to implement- simply have a single black background with some *tiny* faint wisps of opaque grey for far-off gas clouds, vapor clouds, etc.

I'm not even asking the hard thing: having different, selectable, false-color settings.

If you don't understand what I mean by false-color, take a look at this:

I don't think this is a crazy request, and I'm not asking it to be forced on everyone- I'm just asking for something that makes the world of EVE a little more "real" to those of use who're used to looking at astronomic photography.

Just because a lot of pictures we are fed from telescopes are "false color" it doesn't mean there are no colors in space.

Apparently telescopes take black and white photos to preserve resolution and detail and then compile them with pictures of the same thing taken under different filters (which captures "false colors" in addition to the actual ones).

Eve is a game, not an astronomy simulator. I wouldn't want devs spending their time on alternative colour schemes.

Last time I checked, the isue is not whether color is true or false but that the light coming from space is extremely weak. I don't remember now, but some nicer pictures the Hubble Telescope took were given with 190 days exposure. So if we assume the nebulae in New Eden are what they look like, it would take that long to see them in whole their glory. Otherwise we should see pitch black space. And no stars too, for that matter.

Frankly, I would welcome option to turn off those nebulae as while looking pretty they are distracting at best. Stars can stay, stars are nice.

While we are speaking about visualising space, there is one more thing. Some time ago I played with a game released by MIT called "A Slower Speed of Light" which simulated what we could see if we approached speed of light. And it was pretty awesome. Now I can't imagine what may we see during FTL travel but I'm dead sure it would beat LSD at any time.
