Planetary Interaction storage question

Hi all

I'm fairly new to the PI scene but know the basics. My question is regarding storage in LPs and Silos and I couldn't find info on this simple question.

On my factory planets I have 18 factories between 2 LPs and silos outside these. I'm dropping 2 materials one end, final product pops out the other side, blah blah. Now, I forgot to empty out the output silo last night and left it running until now, with my input LP still half full of materials. Checked in now and the output is full, but nothing in the input.

So if factories continue working do they stop if there is no space in the output LP/Silo? If a silo/LP runs out of space do I lose what was being produced?

Currently I log in every evening and shift stuff around using expedited transfer. If there is another easier, more constructive way, please let me know your suggestions!

Cheers in advance for any help!

They don't stop. If there's no space for the produced material, it's lost.

Damn! Guess I better watch my storage more closely.

Oh well, this is how we learn.

Thanks for the reply!

Let me verify and get this straight. 2 LP means you have two Launchpads on the same planet ???

Got 2 LP on my factory planet too. Easily fits with all the factories I need and means I don't have to manage it as often as if it had one.

Sure, I could use one LP and a storage facility instead, but planet's not tight on CPU and saves the need to transfer stuff around.

Example:
* P1A + P1B -> P2A Factory Planet (2 launchpads)
* P1C + P1D -> P2B and P2A + P2B -> P3 Factory Planet (3 launchpads)
Note that this setup predates silos being useful, so launchpads were used for storage.

Yeah. CPU requirements are now the same for Storage and LP's.

But the storage has a greater capacity.

But in real life, why equal power for a launching facility and an essentially empty room ??? Lol

Yep, still trying to get it right though. I've got 3 rows of 6 factories between 2 LPs, with storage silos branching out from them, kind of randomly so i can shift stuff around instead of risking a frequent pickup. I usually drop stuff from the Customs Office to both LPs, move them to the storage silos, then do another drop straightaway to the input LP so I'm sorted for a while.

I do keep my buildings close together so I'm trying to be as efficient as possible.

I have always assumed this oddity was a story line thing:
The launch pad may have a rocket and connection to the CO, but the storage facility has an army of unionized forklift operators who suck up resources while getting little to no work done....

I have sadi often that it would be nice to two different sizes of storage facilities, the current being large, and the "new one" having 6Km3. When they changed the storage facility way back when, they should have just made two options: large and small.

Storing materials in certain optimal pressures and temperatures maybe? You wouldn't want planktic colonies to cook or freeze... Idk, that answer is b.s. but it's my best guess.
