Shield Extenders are modules used on ships everywhere, usually fast kiting ships. The bonus they provide is overpowered, unfair, and allows for to much power projection. An entire fleet can bridge across a region to an unsuspecting small gang who would never engage that lone Rohk, which is covered in shield extenders, if they knew it had a cyno.

I am tired of engaging some newbie Rattlesnake solo in my active Thorax and being unable to break it's shield regen. This completely undermines the role of the cruiser, which is obviously to take on super-brick tanked battleships. I propose that fitting a shield extender would have a shield regeneration penalty, equal to what the regeneration bonus is right now. Logistics would be required to passive tank shield, much like armor. Doing this would also promote CCP's current focus of active tanking shield ships, and armor tanking the Gallente/Amarr Attack Ships.

The shield regeneration algorithm could be modified to "stabilize" at a certain percentage of shield hitpoints, based on the total shield and regen strength curve. The larger the shield pool, the lower the percentage of shield would stabilize at. Adding more buffer would however, make the shield "regen" stronger that it was previously. We could see some shield buffer-active setups meant to have a massive total pool of hitpoints to maintain, but would require onboard reps to reach maximum capacity. Incoming shield logistics would also fall off at a curve percentage of the total shield pool, effected by the amount of shield extenders.

When I go to the pharmacy before an evening alone with ~my significant other~ I always have to extend my shield. The normal ones don't fit.

we can chalk that up to playing with yourself a multi-player game.

However the point of SEs is debatable.
Try to fit 800plates in to frigates or medium armor reps and see what happens.
When you fit 1600 on your cruisers its at the extreme cost of fittings/cpu/rigs increasing the ship tank for sure but with huge drawbacks for ships who need speed to get in range to apply any dmg, most often have to downgrade their weapons to lower tiers on top of PG/CPU rig/mod, and still not able to fit a large AAR, shield cruisers can fit XL-ASBs repping twice the amount of LAAR

Frigs with medium shield extenders or ASB's? -no problem and no trade off for weapon system for a minus sign bloom impact sure very important on paper but since angular velocity negates a huge chunk of incoming dmg, this is less of a drawback and they still fit higher tier weapons.

Cruisers with double LARGE SHIELD extender, higher tier weapons etc and is no secret for whoever pvp these mods are OP on kitting setups because they trade little for huge advantages. (amount is not really important but fittings yes)
Large and medium shield extenders have to be better balanced so frigates start using small shield extenders boosters and ASBs instead of mediums

This means small SEs/SBs/ASBs need a good buff at the same level of armor reps where is the only rep size where armor reps are almost fine.
And also means fittings for medium and large SE/SB/ASBs as butt to HP bonus need a good take a look at too so if someone wants to fit more than one LSE in a cruiser he should have as much pain to fit his ship as an armor one (it's a real puzzle sometimes)
