Hello all,

As a short introduction I've been playing EVE for 3 weeks as of now for the first time after hearing about it from time to time since 2006. As of now I've finished all my tutorial missions. Have finished the SoE epic arc and got bored so I went to low sec to do factional warfare to have fun and get more ISK. Suffice to say I got my ass handed to me loosing all my combat ships I got from my tutorial missions to more experienced FW PVP'ers. Now I'm down to a starter pack Concord ship that was bundled with game time I bought. I've also bought one PLEX to further fund whatever I want to do in EVE since tech 2 modules are relatively expensive to me.

Now for my first question is I'm attempting to sell my PLEX in Jita and it wants me to raise 4.5 million ISK which I'm slowly grinding. When I open up the market window there is a seller and buyer window but whenever I attempt to sell anything to the buyers it doesn't give me an option to sell it to them directly unlike the sellers which I can just buy up straight.

My second question is since I'm Caldari and I want to specialize in Caldari ships I want to know what they specialize at. I know they're missile spammers but what kind of modules should I use on Caldari ships? Are light missiles an early game things and will be useless against anything larger than a cruiser? How about medium missiles? Large? One of my current problems with light missiles is the very long reload time which I prefer compared to the short engagement range of rockets. Is there any way to solve this?

Third question how come I can't do storyline agents even though they're available in the agent finder window. Are there any other epic arcs that I can solo in a frigate besides the SoE epic arc?

Fourth question what skills should I train on as a pilot that will specialize in Caldari ships? I'm currently 7 days away from finishing light missile specialization. I'm thinking about capping myself to cruiser size hulls for a while so I can train my other support skills.

Fifth question is is there a safe and fast way to earn ISK? FW is out of the question since I keep getting killed within a minute of engagement. No mining though. Right now I'm doing level 2 missions to earn some money.

Right click the PLEX and hit "sell." The PLEX will automatically be sold to the highest "buy order" that is available to you.

However, I must point out that you won't get the full value of the PLEX if you do this as buyers generally place their orders somewhere around 15 to 30% less than the highest selling price.

What you want to do it right click the PLEX... "Look up Market Details"... right click the PLEX again and hit "sell"... then modify the price to just below the lowest selling order on the window.
You will lose some ISK to NPC taxes and fees and it'll take a little while before it sells (about a day or two), but you'll get more in the long run.

Condors fitted with Tracking Disruptors are the current FOTM in terms of light missile "kiting" tactics. They won't kill anything quickly... but they can whittle down opponents over time while you use range, speed, and Electronic Warfare to keep safe.
And here's the best part... they are perfectly viable using no Tech 2 equipment... making them cheap.
However... again... they won't be able to kill quickly. What you gain instead is the ability to disengage at will.

Kestrels can also perform the same tactic with largely the same fits. They will deal and take a bit more damage, but will be a fair bit slower.

When you get into Cruisers then you will want to look at the Caracal. Fit with Rapid Light Missiles, speed, and tank. Frigates and destroyers will generally be afraid of you (but that won't stop some of them) and, if you're fast enough, will outpace most other cruisers.

And don't worry about the reload time too much.
Unless you are constantly changing to use a different ammo type... which you generally shouldn't be doing mid-battle unless you are using lasers (use Thermal damage missiles by default unless the ship gets bonuses specifically to Kinetic ones).

The pirate ones out in NPC 0.0 space can be done in a frigate... but that'd require you to leave the "safety" of high-sec.

Most non-arc storyline missions won't become available until you have completed about 16(?) regular missions. And they're nothing to write home about. You get an implant here or there. Nothing really more.

That's a decent plan. Though I suggest you mix some of the support skills with "fun" ones to keep things fresh. Remember that you don't need to have "the best" in order to do anything. You may not be as effective... but you'll get a feel for some things.

The support skills I recommend first would be the ones that affect all ships regardless of size...

(Skill)........................................................... (effect per level)

- Engineering......................................... +5% powergrid
- Electrinics............................................ +5% CPU
- Weapon Upgrades............................. -5% CPU cost per weapon (turret or launcher)
- Advanced weapon Upgrades............. -2% powergrid per weapon (turret or launcher)
- Energy Management........................... +5% capacitor recharge rate
- Energy Grid Upgrade.......................... +5% max capacitor capacity
- Hull Upgrades...................................... +5% armor HP (and at level 5 lets you use the Tech 2 Damage Control)
- Navigation.............................................. +5% max ship velocity (this one indirectly increases the speed of ABs and MWDs)
- Afterburner.............................................. -5% AB cycle time AND -10% capacitor need for ABs

Get these all up to around level 4 before getting any single one up to level 5.

Then you have the basic skills that affect you personally as a budding Caldari missile lover...

- Caldari Frigate.................................... increases the ship bonuses
- Caldari Destroyer............................... increases the ship bonses
- Shield Management.......................... +5% max shield capacity
- Light Missiles..................................... +5% Light Missile Damage
- Rockets............................................... +5% Rocket Damage

Then there are the basic skills for PvPers...

- High Speed Maneuvering......................... -5% capacitor need for MWD
- Propulsion Jamming.................................-5% capacitor need for warp Disruptors/Scramblers and Stasis Webifiers
- Weapon Disruption....................................-5% capacitor need for Tracking Disruptors

Everything else just adds to your effectiveness.

The trick behind farming in FW is not to get in an engagement in the first place. Find backwater systems that see little traffic, run the complexes, and avoid combat altogether.

But... if that is still out of the question then you other options are:

- exploration: probe down relic and data sites and hack into them. What you get in terms of value is mostly random... especially now with the infuriating "spew" mechanic.

- Hauling/Trading: not a terribly fast way of earning ISK, but it can be VERY lucrative if you have a good grasp of market mechanics and know what people want and where.

- Mission running: sadly... this is one place where bigger is better... and it does require you to do a bit of character training to do quickly.

- Incursions: basically advanced mission running but with higher skill requirements.

- Scamming: doesn't require any character skills... just good interpersonal ones, an excellent grasp of game mechanics, and thick skin (as people will begin hating you).

- Ninja salvaging: probe down mission runners in hubs and salvage the wrecks they leave behind. Most hardcore mission runners will DESPISE you for doing this... but they are completely impotent and can't do anything unless you take the loot inside the wrecks (outside shooting the wrecks or putting a bounty on you).

- POS farming: I used to do this one. Basically find an offline tower with mods attached to it (like labs or turrets), figure out of the corp it belongs to is a threat (or even active), war dec it, blow up the POS, and collect the POS mods.
It's long and slow work (take about a full day or two)... but the payoff is generally around 50 to 100 million ISK per POS mod that you collect (plus any goodies people forgot about in them).

- Join a 0.0 corp: if you find yourself a good one with good space way behind the front lines you can farm NPCs all day.

Join FW.

Do plexes.

Get Kestrels and BY-1 Chip.

Visit LP store.

Swap Kestrel and Chip for Hookbill.

Fit Light Missiles.

Go really fast in circles around bad guys.

Splode stuff.

Fifth question is is there a safe and fast way to earn ISK? FW is out of the question since I keep getting killed within a minute of engagement. No mining though. Right now I'm doing level 2 missions to earn some money.

1. Sell orders vs buy orders: Sell orders take ISK to put up i.e. broker fees etc. If you click sell item in the market window, it puts up a sell order, which taxes you proportionate to the amount of ISK you're selling the item for. If you want to sell to buy orders, just right click the item in your inventory and sell. This way you don't have to pay market taxes, but you may not get as much as you could by putting up a sell order.

2. Caldari have a variety of ships that can do different things fairly well, but their racial flavour is decent range and ewar, using shields as tank. They are equally missile spammers as well as hybrid users. There is no such thing as 'early game'. Some people fly nothing bigger than cruisers for their whole PVP careers. I could probably count on one hand the number of times I've flown battleships in PVP myself. And yes, light missiles are viable in cruisers that fit rapid light missile launchers, basically cruiser weapons that use frigate sized ammos. This module is commonly seen on frigate hunting caracals.

Further on your second question, small/medium/large missile launchers come in 2 flavours, long range vs high damage. It just depends on your playstyle. Some people fit medium size long range missiles, i.e. heavy missiles on a caracal, some prefer short range, higher damge i.e. heavy assault missiles. Rapid light missile launchers are a bit of an anomaly. Don't think there's anything to help with reload times, but its pretty much standard 10 seconds across most weapons (5s for hybrids now, and almost 0 for lasers).

3. I'll leave this to other posters with more experience.

4. For Caldari, you want good shield skills, missiles and support skills (if you prefer missiles) and gunnery and support skills (some skills like weapon upgrades etc work for missiles too). The core skills are also good, more PG/CPU, fast movement etc. are always useful on every ship you fly. If you wanna go down the ewar route, ECM strength and range is good skill to train. As a Caldari pilot, if you like missiles, taking caracals for example, you want Engineering/Electronics to 4 at least, and weapon upgrades to 4 (5 if you have the time, which allows advanced weapon upgrades). Next you'll probably want tech 2 large shield extenders, and skills to use microwarpdrives. Finally, you'll want medium missiles for more options, heavy assaults or heavy missiles, pick one for now (you can always train the other one later). You'll be able to kit out you ship like this:

[Caracal, HAM nano]
Ballistic Control System II
Ballistic Control System II
Ballistic Control System II
Nanofiber Internal Structure II

10MN Microwarpdrive II
Adaptive Invulnerability Field II
Warp Disruptor II
Large Shield Extender II
Stasis Webifier II

Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Scourge Rage Heavy Assault Missile
Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Scourge Rage Heavy Assault Missile
Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Scourge Rage Heavy Assault Missile
Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Scourge Rage Heavy Assault Missile
Heavy Assault Missile Launcher II, Scourge Rage Heavy Assault Missile

Medium Core Defense Field Extender I
Medium Core Defense Field Extender I
Medium Core Defense Field Extender I

The above fit is at all level 5 fitting skills + a 3% PG implant.

[Caracal, RLML]
Ballistic Control System II
Ballistic Control System II
Ballistic Control System II
Damage Control II

10MN Microwarpdrive II
Large Shield Extender II
Warp Disruptor II
Large Shield Extender II
Large Shield Extender II

Rapid Light Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Mjolnir Light Missile
Rapid Light Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Mjolnir Light Missile
Rapid Light Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Mjolnir Light Missile
Rapid Light Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Mjolnir Light Missile
Rapid Light Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Mjolnir Light Missile

Medium Core Defense Field Extender I
Medium Core Defense Field Extender I
Medium Core Defense Field Extender I

You could swap out the modules for more tackle (webber) or rigs for better resistances etc. Note that those fits are not ideal, but they are something to base off.

5. Plexing gives you great loyalty points, which you swap for items in the FW store and sell to other players. IIRC, a medium plex will give you enough LP to get a hookbill which sells for 10-15mil a pop I think. As per the usual advice, join up a corp doing the same things you're interested in, make sure you click with them, voice comms aren't a must but you'll need them for PVP. FW can make you money, but you have to avoid the hotspots and warzones to plex in peace. Just keep an eye on local and your dscan. Other ways to make money are having a trading alt (you'll need capital), or mission running, mining (not recommended since it diverts training away from your combat skills), exploration (haven't tried the new ones yet, so yeah) etc.

Good luck and good hunting!

If you try to sell something you have two ways of doing it. If you rightclick and sell then you get the selling window with price and everything but on the bottom part of that window you have the option for simple selling and creating an order. Simple selling will cost some tax which gets deducted after the sale completed. Would you choose the order type then you also have to pay extra cost up front.

So if you're trying to sell that plex and it asks for an upfront amount you set it to the wrong selling type and just have to click the bottom button again to make it a direct sale.

Thanks for the replies everyone especially on how the market works. Also since there is an epic arc agent in null sec how do I find the agent in question? When venturing into null sec should I expect a horrible flaming death within my first stargate jump into null sec?

@Yang: not sure about the nullsec epic arc agents' locations, but the entry points into null generally have a guard watch and warp disruption bubbles deployed. The entry points from hisec into null are probably the most heavily guarded, with less heavy watches (but probably still some static warp bubbles) at the low-to-null entry points. However, none of them are a guaranteed death zone. Ideally, you'll want to be flying something fast and cheap, that won't hurt you financially if it gets shot out from under you; you'll also want to fly without expensive implants and set up a medical clone nearby in case you have the bad luck to get both your ship and your pod destroyed.

@IbanezLaney: the Caldari Navy Hookbill is a conversion of the Merlin, not the Kestrel.
