Hi CCP REYKJAVIK, ICELAND,

I am concerned by this game and the environmental and ecology impact on the world.
If you wish, on eve, by the mechanics, you can stay connected 24H/24H
Here is some little numbers.
500'000 subscribers numbers found here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eve_Online
If we take 10% of away from keayboard Player's
1 PC low Graphics = 300 Watts.
Take it on 23H and 7days
300x23x7= 48'300 Watts / week
48'300x50'000= 2'415'000'000 Watts / week
That is what the game provides on the environment with the away from keyboard and ghost campers that you leave on.
I am really concerned by this. It is a lots of power used for nothing.
Iceland is a known country for ecology and environment considerations.
A little link that i like http://www.icelandair.us/information/about-icelandair/environmental-policy/
If you take examples on other game. If you stay away from keyboard for x time (about 15 to 30 minutes) server kick's you.
And if your computer is configured with good settings it will go in standby.
Could you tell me your concerns on this ?

This whole thread makes no sense.

If players wouldn't run EvE, then they would do something else on their computers,
so it's totally irrelevant anyway.

Its not clear they would do something else on their computer that maxes out the graphics card, then go AFK all day.

If they do that, chances are that EVE won't max out (or even engage) their video card to begin with…

if your graphics card is being maxed out by running eve AFK, then a new, more efficient graphics card might be in order.

You're assuming that everyone here plays EvE 23/7, with one computer per alt. Also, why would logging people out make us turn off our computers?

For this, I'm going to organize a bunch of locals to leave their Hummers and SUV's on for 24 hours.

AFK cloaking is fine. My corp maintains gate cams in Black Rise, and CCP themselves contacted my CEO and said they were amused by it and liked the idea.

Before destroying AFK cloaking, maybe they should concentrate on off grid boosters first.

I think EVE is actually good for the environment. Think about it. If an EVE player wasn't playing EVE what might they do instead? Maybe go see a movie, or a sports game, go for a meal, or go out drinking etc.. For many players that means a car journey or two. Seeing how cars create way more greenhouse-gasses than PCs do playing EVE actually helps to save the environment. Roll

Or maybe OP is right and has unknowingly uncovered CCP's true motivation for making EVE. They got sick of being cold all the time and thought they would speed things along a bit.

The EVE servers run on the environmentally friendly and renewable resource called "Tears".

Tears are clean burning releasing only water vapor and hope when evaporated.

Things are only impossible until they are not.

I completely agree with the sentiments expressed in the OP whatever they were.

I'll be honest I didn't read it.

something about PLEX for carbon credits maybe?

If you've never tried PvP in EvE it's quite possible you've missed out on one of the greatest rushes available in modern gaming.

I've just realised I can off-set my carbon immisions playing EVE, I have figured out if I play EVE for an hour it only takes me 20 minutes of burning villages in the Sudan/Burma/A N Other tin pot country to far surpass what carbon I'm creating playing EVE.

Pro Tip: If you want to save the planet burn more villages. Obviously if the villagers are in the huts you get bonus minutes to be added because they won't be creating any more Carbon Monoxide.
