Comet effects in kspace (bringing wormhole effects to systems).

It's been brought up I'm sure, but why not have some random comets that fly through the universe that can cause wormhole effects in The constellations they go by.

Lets say Chibba's comet flies through the syndicate region for 2 weeks, during that two weeks, it causes the effects of a wolf rayet. It's effect amount specific to where the comet is in the constellation. After two weeks, the comet moves to the next constellation, taking its effects with it.

3 months later another comet (let's call it comet socksfour), comes into that system, causing a pulsar effect.

It's essentially the incursion mechanic, but more outlined and track able (you can calender mark when these comets are coming to the systems.

It's simple, adds a little randomness, causes people to swap ship doctrines from time to time, etc.

Yea it'd be crazy to fight some ships under certain wormhole effects, but some change can be useful.

Yaay!!!!

Two Questions:

1. Why would a comet create a system wide effect?
2. Why?

Fun Fact:

Halley's Comet, one of the fastest known, travels at an approximate average of 70 KM per Second

Our Solar System is about 40 AU's Wide

In order for Comet to cross our Solar System in two weeks it must be going 4,946 KM per Second (1.65% the speed of light) or about 70 times faster then Halley's Comet

Call it wishful thinking but that is one of the only realistic delivery mechanisms to cause system wide effects that move from constellation to constellation. Its a moving massive planetary type body that travels the universe, exerting a influence in the systems its in.

As to why.... there needs to be a small input of variety, change and mystery put back into Eve. Everythings static and never changing. We all want more driven content in the eve scape, be it live events, ccp run events, player run events, etc.

We see this every so often when it comes to a incursion that randomly spawns into a lowsec and nullsef area, causing a derailment on plans. The same can be done with these types of effect comets, causing people to either change a ship doctrine, do an invasion (if the effects are preferable), or just cause some random chaos.

Some variety in these systems can be welcome, even if it only comes once or twice a year.

What about just random anomalies that occur in systems every so often, like weather for space? ie: solar flares, particle storms, comets, meteor showers, etc. In addition to having different effects on ship's systems, some of these could also be potentially hazardous to ships (with a system warning that pops up advising players to take action or seek shelter).

I am currently away, traveling through time and will be returning last week.

Essentially. That happens whenever incursions come into a system.

Its that, with different effects. It can be via comet, or whatever anomaly. I went with a comet as it physically puts something into the game that people can point at and say "Yep the comets in our constellation this week".

What about wormholes causing a minor effect in the system they turn up in. Like they're leaking through the wormhole.

C2 Wolf Rayet connects to System X, System X gets a 2~5% change for all the stats Wolf Rayet gives.
