easiest T1 frigate to get a grasp on pvp

Hi,

since I am bored as hell from mining and ever since I read about some guys that bought 100 T1 frigates, I am about to set out to start to learn pvp.

I can fly all frigates from all races, as well as a lot of T2 guns (except beam weapons and rockets / missiles)

I am not asking about the secret WIN-Button, but for the easiest T1 frigate to use.
also it should have the ability to be changed once the basic loadout is mastered.

Aesthetics dont play a role at all (although I LOVE the rifter hull)....

so, I am looking for the T1 frigate perfectly suitable for absolute noobies.
I expect to die . a lot. So T1 hull with T2 mods is the absolute max I am wiling to jump into fo this.

thx in advance

If you want easy to use you could try a buffer Merlin. However that fit gets hard-countered a lot these days. Fly a rail, scram, web Tristan then, don't forget your drones.

tactic used would be kite, 20km range web if target gets closer and let the drones do the dirty work ?

gotta look to find some youtube vids for that.

Its pretty hard to **** up a plated tristan.

However i will always recommend the best t1 brawler. The incursus (Just don't ******* dual rep it)

The neut Tristan is the trump card against all other brawlers within 6km.

I wear my goggles at night.

Any spelling/grammatical errors come complimentary with my typing on a phone

the tristan is nice as well. I found a ton of videos a long time ago. it was dual repped though :-)

i tried to emulate that and it was just frustrating as the reps couldnt keep upt to the damage ...

although an incursus against a Attack Frigate seems kinda .... stupid. for the Incursus.

so whats a good fit for both the incursus and the tristan ?
I will eft both and see what max dps / EHP i can get with my skills...

I'm not sure I'm happy with the Tristan fit below, I threw it together quicky and haven't tried it yet. I'll also include Gavriels Incursus fit so you can compare. The Tristan can be fit in many ways and I'm sure you'll be able to experiment once you get the basics down.

The fit I posted works as follows:

1) The first time you undock:
-Turn auto-reload off on the Small Ancillary Armor Repairer. Every time you undock after that you will double check that it's still off.
-Set default "Keep at range" range at 7800m

2) As soon as you enter system:
-Overheat guns (Shift + Click)
-Overheat Small Ancillary Armor Repairer (Shift + Click)

3) In battle:
-Lock target
-Web
-Scram
-AB on
-Keep at range
-Launch drones
-Activate guns
-Send drones to target if they haven't followed the actions of your guns
-If target is closing in or burning off: overheat AB
-Watch the heat on your modules, if too much of the bar is turning red: turn off heat
-If you start taking armor damage cycle your Small Ancillary Armor Repairer
-Turn the Small Ancillary Armor Repairer off again if your armor HP is high enough, do not let it run for no reason.
-Every time you turn off the Small Ancillary Armor Repairer you heat on it will be off as well. Turn it back on before every activation.(Shift + Click)
-Again, keep an eye on your range to the target. It should always be between 7000-8000m
-There is more, but ... yeah, start with this.

4)Preventive measures
-Do not fight Condors, Slicers or other kiting fits.
-Do not fight faction or T2 frigates.
-Do not fight destroyers
(I'm not saying you cannot kill these in a Tristan, I'm saying you shouldn't try if you're a noob.)

5) Feel free to meta 3 the mid slots until you learn.

So close!

Should be a SAAR. Also because the SAAR is more cap efficient you can ditch the Semi for another nano pump.

Thats not a very terrible noob friendly ship though as it requires proper knowledge of complicated concept like "overheat your fecking AB" and "align out vs attack frigs to keep transversal down"

those are all at least two to three mouseclicks!

But yea the rail incursus ***** over most other frigs in the game. Other fun targets for it are enyos and thrashers (against whoom i recommend keeping at range 9km and overheating scram, guns, repper and it really helps to scream for the entire duration of the fight)

EDIT: You should also always preheat your AB and run at least the first cycle on heat, if you pull range comfortably like that you can take heat off. The way you begin the fight is really important.

Also if you land on zero with something dangerous you want to double click in front of you, turn your ab on and THEN lock.

Either join a pvp corp or give up

The "Derp-Tron" (see: gank-fit Atron with a Damage Control and MWD).

Simply fit the ship... undock... find a target frigate (that's not within 150km of the gate)... burn right towards it... overload everything... tackle, shoot, and PRAY!

edit: also... ignore FlyingHotPocket. He used to be quite fond of his Navy Slicer and today can be found flying around in kiting Talwars and Condors... laughing at anyone who doesn't use snake implants, off grid boosts, and warp core stabs. Cool

You've changed it then. I was wondering why you kept flying T2 SAR. :p

The problem with the straightforward fits is that they usually require rockets (Kestrel, Hookbill, ...), which the OP hasn't trained or are easily countered by the "new" scram range kiting meta.

I used SARs while SAAR's were like 10 mil, thats all :P

I havn't used a SAR since, since they ancils are just better.

But yea if a noob can get a handle on the rail incursus they are golden. It was one of the first frigs i ever used.

Frigate fights are fast and furious, great fun and your wallet doesn't scream each time you lose.

Approx 10mil for a T2 fit Frig.

Consider joining FW -

You get fights, including solo fights and you can control what ship types enter the plex. novice plexes only allow T1 and faction Frigs in.

Make loads of ISK in plexes waiting for fights, so you have a steady income to pay for your soon to be PvP habbit.

Its a lot of fun.

There are downsides - you can't dock in enemy lowsec stations etc.

Read up to learn more.

And I agree - Flyinghotpocket is a moron.

Edit: Oh and a spell in RvB/Brave Newbies/Eve Uni wouldn't be a bad thing to learn the basics.
