So I was checking out the sov map today and I noticed something. Why are there some systems in null that no one has claimed? It's like they aren't covered by any corp color. For example.....in the north there is A821-A, UUA-F4 and J7HZ-F. And then there is that little bit of open space in between Space Monkeys and Goons right to the left of Venel. there is a fairly big place in the south called STAIN that seems to be unoccupied. I am just curious as to teh reason.

I don't suppose anyone wants to go claim these unwanted places with me do they? I only got about 300,000 SP's but beware....

Just because someone hasn't put money into making a system show their color on the ingame map (which is what the sov map you saw pulls from) doesn't mean that they won't show up and kill you as soon as you try to.

I was just kidding about going out there. Seriously...I just started this game. I was just curious why there are empty spaces. I wouldn't think that possible.

That's NPC null space. Players can't claim sov there.

The regions are: Curse, Great Wildlands, Outer Ring, Stain, Syndicate, and Venal.

It used to be that there were a few odd systems that players didn't claim due to cost. I don't know if that's true anymore, and this is probably a more realistic answer.

As mentioned folks cant claim sov on NPC space. But you will also notice small pockets of sov space that people dont claim either. Usually those are crappy true sec and non station systems in sov areas where an alliance already controls most of the territory. They dont drop ihubs/tcus to claim those systems because they dont want the costs of upkeep and they spend their money on the better systems in that area instead.
