I've posted this on the missions forum but I think this forum might also be able to help me out

I've recently got a battleship with cruise missiles and tried out a level 4 mission. However I'm getting my arse kicked, they keep taking down my shields and I run out my capacitor. I also had to deal with some frigates but got a chunk of my drones shot up while trying to take them out.

Arbalest' Cruise Launcher x6

Large Shield Extender II x1
X-Large C5-L Emergency Shield Overload I x1
Kinetic Deflection Amplifier II x2
Shield Boost Amplifier I x2
Thermic Dissipation Amplifier II x1
Kinetic Deflection Amplifier II x 2

Ballistic Control System I x3
Capacitor Flux Coil I x2

Large Capacitor Control Circuit Ix3

Hobgoblin Ix 5
Hammerhead Ix4

My skills for shields are:

Energy Grid Upgrades 3
Energy Management 3
Energy Systems Operation 3
Shield Emission Systems 2
Shield Management 3
Shield Operation 4
Shield Upgrades 4
Tactical shield manipulation 3

missiles:

Cruiser missiles: 1
Missile Bombardment 4
Missile Projection 4
Rapid Launch 3
Target Navigation Prediction 3
Warhead Upgrades 3

Your skills appear rather low in the missile department. And you have 9 mid slots according to your fitting. Ill let others critique the fit itself, but I would consider getting those missile skills up a to at least 4.

I would agree - you need higher skills in missiles - more gank means less tank needed plus you are gimping the fit -

You shouldn't need shield extenders (on a PvE Raven)
Try using active shield hardeners
You also have 2 lows being used for cap flux coils - try a DCU as a low will help with your overall tank until you get missile skills up and you really need to get your support skills up - obviously capacitor being one

Try one shield amp and a cap booster - you'll find your cap may last longer then as you skill up rip out those rigs for say f;are and/or rigor rigs for more gank

Frigs - get the drone skills up - T2 and train Drone Interfacing - best bang for your buck you'll get

google "Raven PvE fits" and have a look at what's about.........

For a start your dps is likely to be very low, get cruise missiles to 4 immediately! Rapid launch 4 would be a very good investment too as its very quick and will also increase dps quite a bit.

For tank, you don't need the shield extender as that is a buffer tank module most used for pvp, whereas you want a pve active shield tank. Get tactical shield manipulation to 4 pronto so you can fit t2 active shield hardeners, as they are a lot better than your passive ones you have fitted now. You are also going to need cap skills, so get energy systems operation and energy management to 3 or 4 too so you don't cap out.

The fit I use I'm posting below so you can get some idea of a fit that works: (this is against gallente)

Cruise missile launcher II x6

Dread Guristas large shield booster
Kinetic deflection field II x2
Thermic dissipation field II x2
Shield boost amplifier II
Phased weapon navigation array generation extron

Ballistic control system II x4
Power diagnostic system II

Large warhead rigor catalyst x3

With this fit I do 570dps with t1 basic missiles so don't need the tank or cap that you may need. I would recommend you using the CCCs as rigs to start with then as you get used to it swap them for Rigors 1 by 1 as you get used to cap management. Use meta 4 until you can use t2 for most modules.

Somebody link Raven a la Liang.

Pro tip: only guristas can hurt you beyond 100km. if you fit lmjd, you can be far enough from all other rat types that they can not hurt you while you kill them with impunity.

As others have said, your fit is poor and your skills very lacking for level 4. If your can't fly a fully fit t2 drake in a level 3 then don't use a raven till you can. Just because you can fly a ship does not mean you should. Support skills are vital.

use something like the following

[Raven, Mission T2]
Damage Control II
Ballistic Control System II
Ballistic Control System II
Ballistic Control System II
Ballistic Control System II

Thermic Dissipation Field II
Kinetic Deflection Field II
Kinetic Deflection Field II
Heavy Capacitor Booster II, Cap Booster 800
X-Large C5-L Emergency Shield Overload I
Phased Weapon Navigation Array Generation Extron
Phased Weapon Navigation Array Generation Extron

Cruise Missile Launcher II, Scourge Fury Cruise Missile
Cruise Missile Launcher II, Scourge Fury Cruise Missile
Cruise Missile Launcher II, Scourge Fury Cruise Missile
Cruise Missile Launcher II, Scourge Fury Cruise Missile
Cruise Missile Launcher II, Scourge Fury Cruise Missile
Cruise Missile Launcher II, Scourge Fury Cruise Missile
Heavy Diminishing Power System Drain I

Large Warhead Rigor Catalyst I
Large Warhead Rigor Catalyst I
Large Core Defense Capacitor Safeguard II

eventually shift to a faction X-large shield repper (dread ones cost around 50 mill nowadays). Use meta4 mods in place of T2 if you don't have the skills and do visit http://eve-survival.org/wikka.php?wakka=MissionReports for detailed info on missions.

And Please use missions specific active hardners

If you're going to use a Raven, I'd say you may as well upgrade to SNI and benefit from the extra tank it offers.

As others have already stated you are lacking several skills. You may want to give this fit a try:

[Raven, PvE]
Damage Control II
Ballistic Control System II
Ballistic Control System II
Ballistic Control System II
Gravimetric Backup Array II

Kinetic Deflection Field II
Kinetic Deflection Field II
Thermic Dissipation Field II
X-Large Ancillary Shield Booster, Cap Booster 400
Shield Boost Amplifier II
Sensor Booster II, Targeting Range Script
Large Micro Jump Drive

'Arbalest' Cruise Launcher I
'Arbalest' Cruise Launcher I
'Arbalest' Cruise Launcher I
'Arbalest' Cruise Launcher I
'Arbalest' Cruise Launcher I
'Arbalest' Cruise Launcher I
Small Tractor Beam I

Large Warhead Rigor Catalyst I
Large Warhead Rigor Catalyst I
Large Warhead Flare Catalyst I

With MJD, 3x ratspecific hardeners and XLASB you should be out of harms way in most missions. SeBo to make use of that extreme range. Gravimetric Backup for missions with jamming, in case you lack CPU exchange it with a Co-Processor.

Hope this helps :)

Try to stick to one thread per question. Posting multiple threads asking the same question can be confusing.

https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=265535&find=unread

Other than trying to mix passive and active tanks you need better cap skills. I would stick with a passive tanked Drake till you get at least level 4 cap and missile support skills and are able to completely T2 tank. If you must fly a Raven do so in a fleet with other mission runners.

One, you are nowhere near ready to fly a battleship. Two, that fit is bad. Very, very bad.

At this point, you are much better off keeping on doing L3 missions, while you get your skills up. Do NOT fly a battleship before you can T2 everything but the guns.

[insert about 2-3 weeks]

Now that you got your skills up, we can start working on the build. The basic rule of a thumb is 1000 combined dps and tank. This means that if you're doing 500 dps, you need 500 dps tank. If you're doing 800 dps, you only need 200 dps tank. The faster you can kill, the less damage the NPCs will do and the less tank you'll need. Now, since we want to finish the missions as soon as possible, we also want our dps to be top notch. Here's two suggested fits and their explanations:

[Raven, basic]
Ballistic Control System II x 4
Damage Control II

3x Mission Specific Hardeners II
X-Large Shield Booster II
100mn Afterburner II
Phased Weapon Navigation Array Generation Exton (PWNAGE target painter)
Heavy Capacitor Booster, Cap Booster 800

Arbalest Cruise Launcher I x 6

Large Warhead Rigor Catalyst I x 2
Large Warhead Flare Catalyst I

Hammerhead II x 5
Hobgoblin II x 5

One thing you'll notice with this fit is that you likely don't have enough cpu. That's because your fitting skills aren't up to par, while Raven and particularly Navy Raven are fairly cpu tight. In order to fix this, you can either replace the Damage Control with Co-Processor, or better yet, swap out the Shield Booster with a faction one (such as, for instance, Domination). Note that you have to switch your Hardeners for each mission (EM Ward Field x 2 + Thermic Dissipation Field for Sanshas, for instance).

The second ship is the same as above, but it has Afterburner replaced with Micro Jump Drive and Damage Control replaced with Signal Amplifier II. This ship flies much like the first, but it's actually easier with lower skills, as you'll be able to avoid much of the incoming damage by jumping far away from the enemies.

As you get better and your skills progress, you'll find a time when you'll shed the Heavy Capacitor Booster, use Caldari Navy Ballistic Control Systems and start looking towards T2 missile launchers. That's when you want to start thinking about buying the mighty Navy Raven.

Tldr: You want level 4s? You want LEVEL 4s? YOU CAN'T HANDLE LEVEL 4s!!

Your skills are completely inadequate, that's why you are struggling. You should be using T2 Cruise Missiles, all of your missile support skills should be Lvl 4 minimum IMHO. All of your relevant ship support skills should be Lvl 4 minimum (Engineering, Electronics, Mechanics and so on). What is your Caldari BS skill at? That should be lvl 4 minimum as well.

Spend some time training and you'll find the Raven to be insane.

I would agree with everything but T2 missiles. Although they are nice I don't think they are required for a starter Raven. I do think a T2 tank is though. Having all cap and missile skills to 4 is also pretty much a given.

Skills are pretty much everything in Eve. I still remember trying to tell a corp mate that his Machariel should do more than 350 DPS lol

weapon upgrades to 4 for t2 bcus
tactical shield manipulation to 4 for tech 2 active hardeners (55% resists!)
more missile skills, especially cruise missiles I'd say to at least lv3, many will say lv4.

maybe dropping down to lv3s for a week would be a good idea, although you could probably slap on a MJD and get back into it right away. at 100km the only damage you will really be taking is from missiles.

I'd use a fit with rigors and a cap booster, I'd probably skip the ASB (Ancillary Shield Booster). With skills in most missions when paying attention to aggro I don't have to use the cap booster and can manage on the ships recharge. I usually have 5 in the booster and 15 in cargo. lets me deal with the harder missions without warp outs, or if I screw up.

maybe the best course of action is fitting a MJD and a low cap use shield booster (Like a pithum c-type, as they are cheap now) this will sit there at 100km and laugh at npcs. the biggest danger is you will fall asleep flying it.

I wouldn't have said they were necessary if they weren't. It doesn't matter whether you are talking about a T1 Raven or an RNI, the focus should always be on achieving the most applied DPS possible. The difference between T1 and T2 CMs is huge. You are planning to fail if you don't fit them.

But do what you like, it's your life.
