I love the new exploration system.

Just returned to the game for the first time in six months to try the new exploration system.

And I love it. I was surprised when I came to the forum and everyone is bitching about it!

Seriously, it is just the right amount of difficult and exciting.

The minigame is not hard to do and you get two chances at it. I fail maybe one in seven cans and they pop for me. Oh well, eve is eve.

The fact that you actually can fail and it matter, you dont get the reward, make it fun!

Never mind the fact that you need to do it while also keeping a eye on local and the scanner to make sure nobody come and pop you in 0.0.

This might actually keep me playing the game now.

Thank you CCP for fixing the hacking and exploration systems. They were horrible before and no better than gun mining. Dont listen to the whiners that just want to warp in, pop some rats and warp out.
They have combat sites for that.

Sorry, what is the difficult part, and why did this need its own thread?

With the increase in shiptoasting, the Report timer needs to be shortened.

New exploration system sucks because it's too easy. If you're referring to hacking/analyzing as whole exploration, then you should be more specific. There's no skill within new exploration, and market prices reflect the current state of the 'exploration'. There's nothing difficult about it. And honestly, what are you talking about? What exploration? There's no exploration? You get in system, ship tells you where signals are, and you just happily scan them within 30 seconds? Is that an exploration? Hide the signals, don't show them on the map. Don't return the DSP if you've banned them already, and let's see who's an explorer and who'll clean bigger systems.

What's difficult about it?
What's exciting about it?
It's simple grind. Rinse and repeat like mining, like running missions. There is no exploration in it because the best sites always spawn in the same areas. Once you've figured that out it's even more just a grind.
You are in nullsec. In nullsec it's idiot proof and safe if you just keep an eye on local. So nothing exciting about that either.

Getting good loot can be exciting but doesn't happen often after the market crash and even then it's more of a frustrating experience when you have in the back of your head what the loot used to be worth only 2 months ago. CCP's silence about it and lack of updates adds to the frustration (ther's not even a sticky for Odyssey 1.1 exploration in the features and ideas forum!). I've lost my motivation running the sites, burned out on them after only a couple weeks mostly due to seeing the rewards shrinking ever more while the workload got more and more grindy with the routine kicking in and optimized approach.

I agree. I saw a flock of jellyfish explorers. So cute.

OP, you are correct except in one thing.

Calling it 'exploration' is misleading. CCP killed exploration...it doesn't exist anymore.

They replaced it with what you now enjoy and that is fine but please do NOT call it 'exploration'. It would be nice if CCP introduced exploration again in the future.

I also returned after a few months and also love the new exploration mechanics (both scanning and hacking minigame). I'm getting a nice return from it sneaking into nullsec too.

EVE just has a higher concentration of jaded angry nerds I guess. Try losing less expansive ships so that you are less angry.

new system involves no skill, no effort, no risk.
it's pretty terrible.

It's not good nor is it terrible. It gets old real fast, but so did the old system. It's still a solid system, but it removed any pretense of exploration from the profession. It really is now just easy mode treasure hunting, where most of the treasures have become worthless trash, but CCP will likely try to alter that. Having treasure hunting in the game is fine. Having it at the expense of actual exploration is disappointing, especially when this was supposed to be an exploration themed expansion.

How exactly was what they had before exploration instead of what they have now? It's basically the same thing.

Find site, scan site down, get into containers, receive loot.

Because, unless I remember completely wrong, it was the same before but you needed to strap guns on to keep the rats from popping you while you auto solved the containers.

Now you need to actually pay intention.

I would say it is working as intended. People complain it got more people into exploration. THAT WAS THE POINT! :p

I am so sorry your isk printing machine is no longer printing quite as insane amounts as before. Get over it. Adapt.

I too thought new exploration was good. Then i did few dozen data/relic sites and found out it is mind numbingly boring and worthless.

All the sites are basically thrown at you the instant you enter system, hacking is **** easy, loot pinata system is annoying. Exploration ISK reward is pathetic because now everyone can scan them out in matter of seconds and everyone can just solo the **** out of all of them in a T1 frig since no rats. Making this basically worth it for only new players.

Minigame is fun, but everything else went to ****. Remove the sites from automatically appearing in scanner and we got a good start back on track.

Combat sites still give some profit at least. But they too are affected by the stupid ease of probing.

That's great income for a noob, **** income for everyone else. A little below hisec l4 mission running even, where at least i get some standing gains with it. And you are talking nullsec here. Don't even get me started on low sec.
Not long ago i made these two hundred mil or more within one hour so excuse when i'm not so excited about the changes as you are.

Used to enjoy exploration and the fight over the limited signatures because they were valuable. Now
they really don't worth the time. Only good thing about exploration now is killing explorers.

For me it's extremely hard to move those pale spheres on dark background (a.k.a. "to scan") - can't do that for more than 5 minutes per day. Not sure where did CCP get this idea of scanning process.

I think you're missing a vital point.

When a "big" expansion is mentioned, and it's to do with major changes in exploration, the general expectation will be that players will be sent wide and far looking for stuff. Chained missions, short incursions into low sec, having to duck and weave in mini-missions. We did not get that.

Players I know just currently zip around in 10 or so systems in the region they live, clean them, and log on later to repeat. It's not that different from having respawning bosses in other MMO's, we instead get a small exploration site.

It does not feel like exploration, we are just playing a simple mini-game called "exploration".

I apparently have no idea what I'm doing.
