Could anyone suggest some fittings for me that would be good for a new player, I'd like one for tackling and one that I could do damage with (any Caldari or Minmatar frigates will work).

I don't want to sound too abrasive, but how about using your own brain?

Think, cross-check with available information and opinion and then go test it.

Of course there is a lot of different opinions out there and I'm sure that not everything will work for everybody. So go out there and experiment on your own. Gather information by all means possible but the very first step should always be your own imagination!

Uh great contribution bro. I was hoping to get some positive feedback on some fittings so I don't waste SP "experimenting".

PVP is more about technique than fit.

http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Tackling_101_Guide

Read some guides, watch some videos.
Try out some fits, if they fail then work out where they failed.

Also check out Warfare & Tactics

He is kind of right, its not something someone can just tell you. There are plenty of fits out there.

Tackle should have: (in order)
MWD
Warp Disruptor
Webifier
Lock range 35km or +
Nanofibers
Guns and tank
Capacitor Warfare (nosferatu are nice)

Combat frigates should have: (in order)
MWD or AB
Scram
Web
Guns
Tank
Capacitor

Break out EFT (or pyfa, if you prefer), import your character, and see what you can make the best use of with your skills.

Note that DPS frigates are basically just tackle with more firepower. If you're interested in DPS for gangs, I suggest moving up to cruisers. Combat frigates make nice little solo skirmishers though.

There is no standard do it all or win fit. You train skills you use in combat and adjust your fit to your playing style.

You can PvP and/or hunt in as many ways as your intelligence and creativity allows. Point is to fit modules that will allow what you plan to do. If you want to be sure your training wont be wasted train core certificate skills. Every combat pilot needs those maxed eventually anyway and they are good for all races. While training those, join pvp corp or go hunt yourself and see how you like to hunt/ what works / how best to outsmart your prey.
This way you will find out what area's need the most improvement and thus what to train. Every skill that does not fit your playing style is a wasted skill.

One of the best places for PVP fits is the Failheap Ship Setup Hangar.

[Atron, suicide tackle]

3 x light neutron blaster II

1mn micro warp drive
Faint epsilon scram
X5 prototype web

F85 damage control
Mag stab II
Mapc I

Substitute meta mods where you need the skills or isk to make the fit work. Beware of meta 4, they get spendy. I know you asked for caldari/mini but this is a premium ship and it only adds about couple of days training. The atron scares those who know and powns those who don't...fly one, its good
