Some standings confusion

It has been a long time since I have messed around with faction/agent standings, so I am a lot out of touch.

Currently, I have a -4.5 standings with Amarr. (not good)
I have a standings of 1.68 with Carthum Conglomerate (an Amarr corp), after the various connections skill bonuses apply, and can run L1 missions no problem.

I want to get Carthum up so I can farm datacores.

Based on my other agents, which don't have nearly as bad a faction standings (meaning the other 3), I should be able to access L2 agents with a standings of 1.0 and higher, L3's at 3.0, L4's at 5.0.

But that 1.68 corp standings does not allow me to access the L2. It says my effective standings are the faction standings of -4.5.
I have an awful feeling I have to grind my faction standings much, much higher before I can do L2's with Carthum.

What are the mechanics I am dealing with?

Warning: If Faction and or Corporation standing drops to -2.0 or lower, higher level Agents will no longer be available. Level 1 Agents are always available regardless of Faction / Corporation standings. If the Agent standing drops to -2.00 or lower, that specific Agent will no longer be available.

From the wiki.

Start training Diplomacy and grind out those level 1's.

Already have high diplomacy, only thing that allows me not to get shot in Amarr space.
So the faction standings supercede the agent standings?

Diplomacy Level4 perhaps Level5 and you should be able to talk to those L2 agents

I don't think so.
L2 agents are accessible at 1.00 standings. I have that already at a corp level.

He meant -4.5 after diplomacy is taken into effect.

grind up a corp from Khanid, Ammatar or Caldari to lvl4 access, then pull lvl4 storylines. It'll go much faster than grinding lvl1 storylines from Amar corp.

Your standings:

Faction standing = -4.5 Amarr.
Corporation standing = +1.68 Carthum Conglomerate

At -5.00 Faction standing, Navy NPC's will attack upon entering Amarr high security systems.

For agents above level 1, there are 3 different standings that determine access. If any of these 3 standings drop to -2.00 or lower, only level 1 agents are available.

Agent standing = Allows access to that specific Agent if Corporation and Faction standing is maintained above -2.00 standing.
Corporation standing = Allows access to all Agents in that specific Corporation if Faction is maintained above -2.00 standing.
Faction standing = Allows access to all Agents in that specific Faction if Corporation is maintained above -2.00 standing.

Faction standing will over-ride Corporation and Agent standing. However, the Agent and Corporation standing must be maintained above -2.00 standing.

Right now at those standings, only level 1Amarr agents are currently available.
So, in order for you to access any Amarr agents above lv 1, you'll need to raise Amarr Faction up above -2.00 standing.

Not really since you only need to get Amarr Faction above -2.00 standing. Completing the Minmatar and Gallente Epic Arcs should help offset the negative standings hit.

Right now, if you can safely travel through all Empire Factions high security space, might be a good idea to complete the SoE lv 1 Epic Arc for Amarr and then start working the 'Plan'. After getting above -2.00 Amarr Faction standing, can then complete Minmatar and Gallente arcs.

Just a thought.

There is no better information, than DeMichael Crimson's 'plan', on how to repair your faction standings. The title of your thread may attract some notable-but-sad trollers who seem to have made a habit of deriding DMC's efforts. Do not take too much notice of their attempts should they materialise here.

Some months ago now I was in a similar position to you. I spent a week grinding lvl1 missions (ick, ick, ick, awful!) and then discovered 'the plan'. One session later (running all the available tutorial agents and the circle ones) I had made a heap more inroads into my standings than I had in the whole previous week.

It did not take long, following 'the plan' to get my Amarr and Caldari faction standings above -2, and then I worked some specific corps to get their standings above 5. In doing this my faction standings also rose above zero (just). My Minmatar and Gallente standings suffered, a fair bit, as a result. Now I could not anchor the POSes I have in Minmatar hisec but I am able to access high level missions throughout the eve cosmos and, importantly for me, all the available epic arcs. Long term, if I am careful, I hope to keep my major factions fairly balanced (along with the angels and guristas pirate factions), and hopefully they will all slowly rise ... and to rely on corp standings mainly to allow me to access high quality missions.

I guess I am almost a 'vet' by now. Hopefully not too bitter and managing to help more than I hinder. I build and sell many things, including large collections of bookmarks.
