CCC vs Semiconductor memory cells

Hi,

I've noticed that my cap lasts longer with a Semiconductor rig instead of the CCC rig that's most common. Why is that? I have the same results on all active tanked ships I've tried - but most fitting suggestions always propose the CCC.

my skils are pretty average across the board (lvl4 for all relevant skills). Could it be that at V-skills, CCC is a better choice?

cheers

I think higher cap amount give you longer time if you are going to cap out. Ie going from max to 0. But CCC give you higher peak recharge, so while they give you less time if you overdraw, you can get cap stable sooner.

yes, but surely longer cap availability beats faster recharge? Or, not, if so why? I mean, it's *really* hard to find a fit someone recommends that has the semiconductor instead of one or more CCC's.

SMC give cap amount + cap recharge. CCC cap recharge only (but more).
So, if fit is cap stable -> CCC. Not stable - SMC for a longer burst.

Carebears prefer CCC coz SMC are too hard for understanding ;)

The SMC beats the CCC in highly unsustainable fittings, by increasing the time till the capacitor is depleted. If the fitting is more sustainable, the CCC gives you more time my cutting the amount of cap you lose over time by a third or more.

I'll take that as a compliment ;)

Smaller ships tend to benefit more from capacity, since the recharge rate stays the same. Larger ships, with larger cap pools, don't benefit as much, since the capacity upgrade is only a small percentage of the total amount.

It's the same reason why boosters are worthless on capital ships.

Battlecruisers, for example, can get much better stability with large cap batteries than with rechargers.

It comes down to cap draw vs cap recharge vs cap buffer. If you have more buffer (SMC) it will take you longer to run out and longer to recharge. If you have more recharge (CCC) it will take you less time to run out, but also less time to recharge).

So, if you're running a burst tank (as most missioning BSes do), you'll be better off with CCCs because you're not trying to run your repper constantly. You want to rep a few cycles and then let your cap recharge, rather than draining it dry all at once. That's why most fits use CCCs rather than SMCs, because they're not trying to get the longest running tank, but they want their cap to have regened by the next time they do need to heal up.
