Years ago I was given some good advice, when you really feel the need to say something in public, it is exactly the time to say nothing.

Today I break this rule in support of someone else.

In my experience you get those who try to win and those who try to win arguments, they are rarely the same people.

Those who try to win arguments, will often do so by trying to shout the loudest and the most. They will pick as targets those who are not afraid to make a stand, who are not afraid to make the hard decisions. Because they stand out and they are not afraid to show themselves as threats.

(I often wonder if those same people would not make the same choices if the roles were reversed.)

People will join in with those, perhaps they believe that voicing an opinion makes them relevant or maybe that way they will not be forgotten. It is easier to go with the crowd, and so disappear into it, than make a stand and make yourself a target.

Forget them, but do not blame them, for it is much harder to think like a person of action, than act like a person of thought.

In the end, we are only accountable to our own conscience (Any loyalty to anyone is only as strong as your conscience allows). We have to live with the choices we make. We cannot go back to change them, all we can do is to try and make the choices we can live with the the future.

Those who try to win, (and they are the people the scare me, the ones I pay attention to) do not feel the need to make public their plans before they are done. Indeed, taking time talking about them is often time that could better be spent making them happen.

When their plans are done, they seldom feel the need to talk about them, since they are done and can not be changed.

But they are also the people that are not afraid to make a stand. Thus setting a standard, and so make themselves a target to those mentioned above.

When in doubt, I aim to have the last word, without even starting a conversation.
