New player here I am at my breaking point here and ready to give up on eve entirely. I started playing around three weeks ago. I have a fair understanding of the game. I have invested a lot of skill points into industry, and being able to fly a mining barge as people have stated this is a relatively safe way to earn ISK. I have dabbled around with Industry, Salvaging in null sec, Market, Secruity, etc.

So minding my own business, heading to Hek to drop off my Ore.. boom, ganked by a Thorax, nothing I could do.. No time to react..

*snip*Posting of kill reports outside of the Crime & Punishment forum channel is prohibited. ISD Ezwal

I have invested time and resources into this ship and now I have next to nothing, back to square one in a venture. I have tried posted in the 21 day trial thread in hopes someone would create an account and I would be able to earn a plex to get back on my feet. My question is what am I to do? How can I get back on my feet? How do I avoid things like this in the future? If anyone wants to run some missions in game, or let me salvage in my venture please add me (lieutenant scumlorddd) is my in game name.

Don't fly what you can't afford to lose. Lesson learned, I hope. How to avoid this? Don't autopilot if you don't need to. Put some more tanky on your shippy. And after this post, you seem nice, I am sure some people will help you out. Godspeed.

What kind of tank is good for a mining barge? Is there a mining barge that is more tanky than the retriever?

Yeah, the procurer. You can get 40k+ ehp on those things.

For this fit you need to have Shield Upgrades trained to level 5 for it to fit.

[Procurer, T1 strip balance]

Mining Laser Upgrade II
Damage Control II

Medium F-S9 Regolith Shield Induction
Medium F-S9 Regolith Shield Induction
Adaptive Invulnerability Field II
Adaptive Invulnerability Field II

Strip Miner I

Medium Core Defense Field Extender I
Medium Core Defense Field Extender I
Medium Core Defense Field Extender I

When you can use T2 strip miner change your fit to this:

[Procurer, T2 strip]

Mining Laser Upgrade II
Mining Laser Upgrade II

Medium Shield Extender II
Medium F-S9 Regolith Shield Induction
Adaptive Invulnerability Field II
Adaptive Invulnerability Field II

Modulated Strip Miner II

Your allaince was at war with warmonmgers... Which makes you a valid target for them.

I gather since others here is posting how to tank they prolly think you lost in a suicide. Still valid responses although idiots for not seeing the obvious. So it does not matter how much you tanked your ship.

Procurers are also cheap at the moment - they're selling for under their mineral price because they were heavily produced right before being rebalanced. They don't have quite as much loiter time as the Retriever, but their shielding is pretty much battlecruiser quality, and can be cranked up to battleship level with the right skills and modules.

And once you've mined your ore, it might make more sense to use a cheap industrial hauler, instead of a mining barge, to transport your goods to market; that way, if you get ganked in transit, you don't end up losing your money-maker as well as your cargo.

In the meantime, it may sound cruel, but if you don't have the cash for a Procurer, maybe step back into a Venture and work your way back up. (You can get a free Venture if you do the industrial career missions.)

even with a tank a retriever won't cope with being shot at very well

rigging slots - shield extenders or screen reinforcers
low slots - damage control

is about the best the you will do, and still retain a decent mining rate

another option, mine somewhere where there are fewer people
you can get a recent(ish) headcount of the number of people in systems with eves in game map browser
this site can be used to locate decent systems to mine in

eve is a tiny bit more harsh than other mmo's
setbacks can occur at any time
in the wrong systems they can occur frequently
1 option is starting over again by working back to where you were, but doing it smarter

Yes... In the Corp button there is a tab called wars.

Even checking your own alliance info will have a wars tab where you can check active wars. Pending and Past.

More importantly as a new playing in a corp it is the responsibility of corp/alliance members to make sure people are aware of what is going on. I gather they failed at that.

Yeah, the procurer. You can get 40k+ ehp on those things.

i'm not sure 40k ehp will save you from a blaster thorax. in any case, you should know that losing ships is part of this game. if you get upset just because someone killed, EVE might not be the right game for you.

as for safer mining, using a procurer will at least make it harder to gank you. being in a less busy system than hek is also a good idea. lastly it pays off to orbit an asteroid while mining, because this makes it harder for the ganker to warp in close to you. obviously, you should watch the overview for potentially dangerous players and try to warp out if you see them landing on grid.

I will keep this in mind. I understand losing ships is part of the game, I guess I am frustrated because I dumped all of my assets into a single ship (mistake number one) my second mistake is using my barge to haul ore.

I don't believe so this information will be quite helpful in the future. I did not know about this aspect of the game. I thought that CONCORD would come, that definitely is not the case.

Are the industrial career missions repeatable? I already completed all of the tutorial missions and sold the items on the market to pay for my retriever.

There are three sets of career agents for each empire; I'm not sure of their exact location, but if you go to another empire's trade hub and then go into the help system, you should be directed to that empire's nearest career agents, and you can run the career missions again and build up a new nest egg.

Just remember to have enough reserve capital that you can replace any ship you take into space.

Don't know if anyone has said this, but you can leave a corp at any time, if you go to the corp info / players you can right click your name and leave. It will place you in a NPC controlled corp again like at the start with the school corps etc. Good luck Big smile
