Yes it has been discussed. This is not the only thread.

It seems FTP is a death sentence for an MMO.

They have a better model than Free to Play. It is FTP for those who have a solid understanding of how to make isk. When you can achieve making approximately 500m/month then you can purchase plex from the market to pay for your game time. So while it is free to you, technically someone else is paying for your game time.

It has been brought up...

https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=251413

... and it wasn't well received.

Part of the problem there are too many ways to exploit EVE using a pure F2P system without resorting to overly draconian restrictions (which can be bypassed)... most of which more or less involve isolating non-paying people from entire parts of the game (and vice versa).

It is not by any stretch of the imagination a death sentence. However, not all games are designed to be F2P, and certain poorly-made MMOs tried to use F2P as a gimmick to retain a dying subscriber base.

EVE is an example of a game which is not designed to be F2P. EVE will never go F2P, and it would be absolute **** if it ever did. It has been discussed and rejected countless times.

Greetings

An interesting discussion, let me just move it to a more appropriate spot on the forums where it will get the attention it deserves.
You may ask why Out of Pod Experience. I believe that this is a discussion of economic models not actually the game. Please continue.

I don't see F2P as a death sentence. More of something to latch onto after the subscription model has failed that MMO.

I'll admit that I haven't been paying other MMOs much attention, but I can't think of any that were released in the last few years that are still on a subscription model. Those that started out as a subscription model have shifted either to F2P or buy to play.

Any new MMO trying the subscription model is going to have the same problem: Convincing people to pay the subscription when there are so many games without it. Existing MMOs can keep subscriptions for some time, as people have invested so much time in their characters to switch game, along with friends to play with.

Eve also has the fact that there is no other MMO like it.

Cant be having that. If they learn to read, they'll learn to complain that they have to read.

Statistics show that as a MMO goes F2P, the population of prepubescent teens rises as well as bragging about rampant fornication with other people's maternal parent.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

This would never happen in eve. When so many players have such attractive sisters and or cousins for other players to make suggestive comments about.... or even sister and cousin in the same person. Shocked

Sean Decker is basically the Director Spy who disbands CCP and trades the IP and assets of eve to EA....

Yes, we will see F2P and the death of EVE soon.

No, it's not.

Someone bought that PLEX from CCP. PLEX is actually more expensive than normal subscription fee.
