15% customes tax???

Is it just me or is this an outrages amount? It seems most of the customs offices in low sec around Amarr and surrounding regions are set to 10-15% tax rate. This is absolutely unacceptable to me. Question is, is there a way to find out the tax rate without scouting the system in person? Could we post those rates and thereby encourage competition. Its not like they are offering us safe passage or anything. These corps are mostly pirates anyway. Also, how much fire power does it take to take out a CO ?

As I recall in the metropolis area it was like 4-7% in low sec. This seems more reasonable. Any info on finding a great PI location would be greatly appreciated.

It's more a question whether you can fight the defenders after it exits reinforcement.
I'm guessing 10-30 BS can shoot a POCO in a reasonable amount of time.

Do your PI elsewhere. There is plenty of Low sec. In Amarr.

Not sure of your location, but this is not the case in my part of Amarr at all.

Do your PI elsewhere. There is plenty of Low sec. In Amarr.

One to two systems from high sec is usually very highly taxed.

Once you get three plus systems in you tend to see taxes drop. I found a 3% POCO recently about 6 jumps down a low-sec pipe. If you wanted to haul that far (or lived in the area) peachy

Amamake has 8% tax, not much better, but highsec gate, and 3 jumps from a trade hub. I hear the locals are friendly too.

Confirming that Amamake is very friendly. There is always a group there to welcome you on your arrival.

If you're paying any customs tax at all, you're doing it wrong. Wormhole planets are your friend. Find a comfy hole, gank the existing POCO's, put up your own and take over. You know you want to. Pirate

Wormhole PI creates a whole new set of challenges involving avoiding PVP traps, transporting materials to market when you never know where exits will lead, to always keeping a scouting alt in the hole so you can get back to your planets, and POS logistics/defense. It's nowhere near as easy to just setup a WH operation as it is to just jump a couple of hops into low sec in a blockade runner.

OP, I agree the corps that put up 10-15% POCO's in low sec are annoying and very widespread in some areas. Keep in mind they have their own motivations for installing a POCO there, either for profit, or to lure you into attacking them so they can respond in far greater numbers, to recording your collection times so a business party might just decide to meet you to thank you for your patronage in person with their welcoming lasers.

It's just one more factor you have to take into account on whether it's worth the risk/reward ratio, and compare that to the cost of moving your operations even further away from home base to make it more frustrating than profitable. If you can make more money faster with missions and just buy the PI mats you need from the market for cheaper, that's always an option.

I don't understand why people leave their POCO tax rates at 15%. I own a dozen in nullsec and keep my tax rates at 2-4%. I want people to use them, as it reimburses the isk I invested in them.

Honestly, I don't do it as a money-making scheme. I make ~2.0 - 3.5 m isk per day per planet per character (depending on the product). That's 60m - 105m isk a month. A 15% POCO tax takes 9-15m isk a month per character. If we have 5-10 characters using that planet, it is simply economical to blow up the POCO and put up our own (100m), as we'll recover that isk within a month or so. At a 5% tax rate, the economical benefits in killing that POCO go significantly down, as it requires a lot more time or participating characters to recover the cost.

IMO, any POCO with a tax rate above 5% is simply asking for you to destroy it!

The only time I ever lost a ship doing Low Sec PI the past 3 years was in a .1 system with like 3% taxes on all POCO's.

They were just using the entire system at that low rate as a 'lure' apparently, as it turned out they just set up a prober in the system and when anybody warped to a POCO they would send a ship fit for focused interdiction immediately. No way to get out of that situation Smile

They cared about making money from others absolutely not.

I immediately took down those facilities and rebuilt 2 jumps away so no big deal in the end really.

People do all kinds of nonsensical, seemingly reverse logic things in EVE.

I've seen some set to 100%. It's the POCO owner's privilege to set the rate to whatever they want. A high rate may mean they don't want anyone consuming resources from the planet. Or they may be looking for a fight. Or they may not understand how to profit from POCO taxes. I had a POCO once, set the tax rate low, and made a little ISK from imports and exports. Then someone else decided they wanted to replace it with their own. Now I have no POCO, and taxes there are considerably higher.

You could always contact the owner and ask them to set your standings for a lower tax rate. It doesn't cost anything to ask, and they might even say yes.

True... To be honest, I'm not above ganking players using POCO's that I own. They are in nullsec, and they should expect me to shoot them if I'm in system. But I also don't camp the POCO, and while I suppose I could use the transaction information to find out when/where they will be, I just don't have the desire to. I do the same thing with stations I live out of, where we seed the market with tons of reasonably priced modules and ships. I will gank a person that carelessly enters system to buy my goods and services, but I won't camp them in station. I'd much rather catch them in a manner where they can fly smart and be safe, or do something careless and pay the price.

Ditto on the above. Find a WH with good PI, Setup a large POS with defenses.... Profit.

There is no other way to do PI as I see it. That goes for HS/LS/Null.
