I propose that CCP create Criminal star stations in empire space where criminals can dock for free, but 'good guys' get charged exorbitant docking and service fees (and run the risk of having a module stolen off their ship by the criminal station denizens. Whats good for the goose...). Their services would be identical for all intents and purposes but they'd add another layer of immersion to the game (same with the standings idea).
Why?

basically this would add more depth and give more interesting consequences to career paths.
In what way will it do that, seeing as how they are “identical for all intents and purposes”? You're asking them to create a segregation of players (for no adequately explained reason) and then you suggest that this segregation will have no actual gameplay effects.

Instead of doing all of that, why not just leave it alone and have the same outcome?

Look one post back on page 1 (post #20). However what I was thinking was that people who choose a criminal career, should by all rights have to hang with criminals and should be shunned by 'polite society'. Others already explained to me how this really doesn't work within the EVE Universe so I basically shuttered that idea.

I do like the idea of Pirate corp star stations hiding in the depths and backwaters of empire space where no other stations are located though. As I posted previously, maybe require a special mission that will lead you to them where otherwise they won't show up on your overview, scans etc (cloaking technology on the star station maybe? Or sensor dampening effects?).

I'm not trying to dump the game but add more to it. More depth, more challenges, more viable career paths (particularly criminal career paths cause I think that would be a blast to sneak around high sec working for the Guristas or Sansha and snubbing my nose at the great empire and concord as I do it).

I am not psychotic.
