Just started to learn After Effects, although the potential is greater for Adobe, it is just to hard to learn. It is even more hard if you started with Vegas and transitioned into AE.
Sony Vegas is pretty simple, its really really simple, compared to AE.
But anyway, if you are looking to get very good at editing I recomend switching to AE and taking the time to learn the basics.
For you AE users, one question,
how do i remove the audio from a fraps after importing it to AE?

lol

After Effects is not for that kind of video editing.

You need Adobe Premiere Pro and yes it is better than Vegas.

Yeah, after effects is unwieldy for editing an entire video in, use Premiere for that. After effects is great to learn too but mostly for intros, 3d stuff, or other special effects that you want to add to the whole video after it's been sequenced with music etc.

So I used After Effects for all my video editing so far. Yes, it is difficult to handle first, but after some time and practice I would say it is the best programme around to do any video editing which includes some overlay, special effects, etc. Since we always need at least some text and if you want to up your vid a bit some animated text, Premiere Pro would not do the job. Additionally, you can use After Effects due to its superior clip management for any compilation of clips. And if you do not know how to do some special effects, there are hundreds of tutorials around which explain nearly every effect you can imagine.
The only issue I have with After Effects is the rendering. The compression algorithms seem to be very bad, so that I have to render it in raw and then compress it with handbrake, which takes up a lot of disk space and time.

My past video(s): DRONE HARASSMENT My latest video**: **V.Ex.o.R.

Not being condescending but you are using After Effects incorrectly, and shouldn't dismiss Premiere Pro like that.

The best and most efficient way to video edit is to put the clips together in Premiere, it is much faster and everything renders much faster. Once you are finished you then export the video to after effects where you add the final special effects, text, and all the other stuff you can't do in premiere. The reason why AE renders so slowly and takes up disc space is because it is made for creating short renders of special effects. Not an entire Video. While you can edit and make an entire video in After Effects, it is just a silly thing to do.

Yeah, when i made the Rebirth 4 movie (that are in my signature), i was first editing the intro with the sound to how i wanted it to be in Adobe After Effects. Then i encoded the intro to a Raw .avi file without compression there. When that was done, then i started a new Adobe Premiere Pro project where i moved in the uncompressed intro file and then started to add the fraps footages, music files and text into the whole movie project.

When all of that was done, then i encoded the movie to MP4 format with the H.264 codec directly from Adobe Premiere Pro.

So yeah, the main usage for Adobe After Effects is for effects. Adobe Premiere Pro is for making a whole video.

I will also say that Adobe Premiere Pro is pretty easy to use if you have used some time with it. The best way is to try and see how things are working and learn the basics your self.
