I have stopped doing radars and mags (or whatever they are called now). Weeks of training wasted.

The new system is stupid and annoying designed (as far as I can tell) to stop exploring being a solo part of the game.

Change it (back) please.

Why is that? Exactly 50% of the spew cans contain only junk items and its easy to tell which containers will be worth tractoring and which wont be.

That only show how incompetent their design team is.

They wanted to incentivize people to bring fried yet there is absolutely no reason to do that :)

Its probably because all effort was put for dumbing down EVE,development of failed DUST/Incarna/WOD and ex EA staff recruitment

I actually don't mind the mini-game, although it can suck major balls if you've low skills/equipment (Get those profession skills up ASAP so you can use the T-II versions of the prof-mods, and invest in some "Prospector" series implants, I misremember the exact names, but you know the ones I mean, and use a CovOps frig. Huge difference.).

I find it makes the game more immersive.

The loot pukie-pukie, though....Revert this, CCP. Now.

Given how likely ^^that^^ is, though --because us proles need to remember that CCP can do no wrong when they fix something that isn't in the least broken!-- this might help:

I do not mind the mini-game either, though it is a bit too distractive in low-sec / null for my taste. The loot spew is atrocious, really. CCP should really consider to remove that part.

The scanning down of signatures is far too easy now. Making it easier to place probes is of course okay with me, but it should be consideably harder to probe down sigs. As it is now even my father, who isn't able to figure out how to hold a mouse the right way, could prolly probe one down.

FIX 1

Remove the mini-game. Just doing this will improve the exploration sites to near enjoyable levels. If the sites needs challenges then add rats. Rats offer the chance for better loot, bounties, and the fact that you either need multiple ships to run a site or larger ships. If you need to make a site harder add stronger rats. If you need to make a site easier then add fewer rats. This fit is easy and has worked for 10 years.

FIX 2

Remove the confetti junk that flies off of the salvage container. I will admit that this process does bring the excitement of reaching for prizes as they fly around you. However, it is extremely annoying after the first time. By removing this and adding a random prize in a stable container players will have greater anticipation of what they will get verses jumping around trying to grab at prizes like a vagrant grabbing at money in the wind.

It looked cool at the fanfest, but after the patch really nobody wants it, nobody needs it.
Make higher sites requiring t2 skills and modules, add rats, whatever, but remove that **** junk please.

I've been semi-verbal about my dislike for the new mechanics for exploration.

Data/Relic sites had an appeal, to me, for the first twenty to thirty times I played the mini-game. I fly combat sites in a Hawk now. Just combat sites. I can care less for Data/Relic sites anymore. I click far less killing every single rat in each system then I do playing a minigame thats better suited to entertain people who are addicted to Candy Crush and FarmVille.

I still don't understand what people find entertaining about the minigame. All I hear is, "It's good." What is good about it? What entertainment did you get out of it? Was there any excitement when you saw "Hack Successful"? When you saw all the cans spew out did you jump up and down clapping your hands with glee?

As far as hacking and how to fix it? I like the OPs solutions but I'd like to throw in my own. Instead of "removing" it, just remove the clicking. Activate the module and a window pops up with a countdown. As the timer counts down a progress bar increases. If you complete the "hack" before the countdown you open your container. If you fail, then you need better skills and will be forever unable to open that container until you have better skills. Also, a self destruct mechanism is activated if you fail the FIRST time. You will and should take damage, and it should severely damage if not completely destroy a T1 glass exploration fit frigate.

***Random opinion: A phrase I keep seeing thrown around is how EVE is dark, harsh, and unforgiving (most recent example I can remember). I have to ask, what about the new expansion actually follows that? Far as I'm concerned, the changes have been nothing but forgiving.

Yeah, that's my one real problem with the mini-game:

The window takes up far too much screen real-estate on an UI where space is already at a premium (did nobody on the dev-team think of this? At all?), and apparently can't be re-sized or stacked/nested with other windows.

I just kinda "shove it out of the way" so I can still easily check D-Scanner and local when I'm in lo-sec, but obviously this is hardly ideal.

Also the loot drops are worse now than it was before the so called exploration expansion.
They're technically better; more stuff drops. Unfortunately, for the time being the "gold rush" nature of new sites/new mechanics is leading to oversupply and values getting screwed. In time things will balance out, at least for relic sites (capital rigs play a large role here). Data sites might need some adjustment.

They also gave us faction tower + module drops back. That right there makes it all worth it.
Come on man, you've got to be kidding. I haven't heard very much about all this new loot that's supposedly available now. Obviously the RNG for those drops is set very low.

As for the amount of loot being dropped, oh yeah, there's definitely a lot more available. IE, Data Sheet's, Reports, Carbon, Batteries, Nuclear Waste, Metal Scraps, etc. All those items were easily available just by exploding a few structures in various sites. CCP has basically reduced the amount of regular good loot that we use to get from those sites.

I still stand by my original statement - The loot drops are worse now than it was before this so called exploration expansion.

Thanks for clearing that up. If only the devs would add the posters name and maybe even their character picture somewhere so we could see who is posting, then we wouldn't need to sign our posts

-Your best friend.
Ahhh, here's a few more things I'll gladly clear up for you.

First of all, I don't sign my posted replies, I initial them. There's a big difference. If it was a legal document, then I would sign it. Since it's just a little personal note from me, I initial it. Makes it a bit more sociable. Besides that, what's it to you? I must say it does please me to know it bothers you so much.

Secondly, let me make this perfectly clear - We are not friends, buddies, pals or brothers.

Third and final, doesn't matter how polite you present your statement, it's still a sarcastic remark intended to demean and incite rage, in other words, trolling. I've been down this road with you before and if it continues, I have no problem letting moderation know about it once again.

The choice is to bring a friend and then you split the loot or you go alone and you miss half the containers. So either way you cannot get all the loot for yourself Big smile

I get all the cans I want 9 times out of 10, and it actually requires to be on the ball and even a tiny amount of thinking about the order of grabbing the cans.

Same with the hacking minigame, you can fail it if you just randomly click nodes without paying any attention- I heard wh cans are harder, would be interesting to try.

Profit from average drops seems to have fallen a bit due to gold rush, but since I use the stuff myself, the net effect for me is just that resource gathering is more fun.

I explore in lowsec fwiw.

Problem: Some people hate the new hacking game and some people don't
Problem: Data and relic sites are actually the same thing in disguise

Why not keep data sites the way they are now with the hacking game, and change relic back to having no game but with rats? Then you can go hacking if you don't want to fight, or kill some frigs if you don't want to play the game. Then the sites are different, and they still both have a challenge to them.

No, that is actually a very accurate summary of a new player starting out with exploration. It's long, tedious, and very VERY low reward in both highsec and lowsec. (Havn't tried nullsec since the expansion myself.)

I'm not even slightly kidding when I say that running level one missions pays around twice as much as exploration in highsec does. I did 40 sites after the expansion, and made around 12m doing it, exploration is now quite possibly the lowest income source in high and lowsec. Killing belt rats may even be more profitable.

a bit - let me tell you, as an example - the t2 salvage you get ouf relic sites has dropped from around 19 Million to a whooping 3 Million worth/per item.

Imagine the worth of Melted nanoribbons for WH dwellers would drop that way, so it's a little bit more than just a "gold rush".
Fact is, everyone in a decent frig, even t1, can do it now thus flooding the market.

And as far as the drop rate is concerned: Since they re-introduced faction stuff bpcs drop off data sites I have yet to see one myself, and I've done hundreds since the patch.

Although the respawn rate has been increased, too, so you're going to find even more mini-gam... err.. sites.

edit: Speaking of 0.0 sites here.

The price has dropped due to CCP increasing the volume of the t2 items. And it's nothing new. They've increased drop rates before for exploration sites of t2 loots. If you ever went after intact armor plates you know what i mean.

This was deliberate by CCP because they introduced Capital class rigs. They had to increase the drop rates to make t2 capital rigs feasible for in game use.

If you want to make more ISK off your exploration start making t2 rigs. They yield a bit of a better pay off than just selling straight.

The drop rates are rare for BPC's but they aren't non existent. I've gotten a few worthless faction pos jammers. Worthless but still faction

The respawn rate hasn't increased either. More people are doing them now so they are just cycling through regions faster. Since you can now take a worthless Cov-ops frig out to run them, exploration sites no longer idle in backwater hostile pocket systems waiting for a natural decay.

To be honest the pay rate is still about the same post expansion(unless you were running t3). Just instead of wasting your time killing rats and getting a high payout from a single site, you plow through a few of the new ones in the same amount of time with around the same payout. I haven't noticed a dip in my monthly income from it. I do more sites but month to month has still been about the same.
