Hi, I'm a resident of high-sec and also a friend to high sec missioners and miners. Lately I've been meeting a lot of people in high-sec, mainly young men, who seem lonely, depressed and emotionally exhausted. I have to say, it pains me to see my fellow Eve players in such distress and so I always take the time to chat with them and do what I can to comfort them. I've formed some strong and lasting friendships because of these small acts of kindness which literally cost me nothing.

I've been thinking lately though, about all the people who don't have a friend like me they can talk to and rely on. It makes me wonder how difficult it is for people to make friends in high-sec. I understand you can join high-sec corps where you can meet people but I feel those friendships are superficial and lack the emotional connection some people need to really help them get over their problems and help themselves. I think it's also a lot harder for people with anxiety and other social difficulties to form meaningful relationships in this game.

So my question is this; Do you find it difficult to form friendships in game? Would you like a friend you can confide in and form a meaningful friendship with? Would you feel more or less comfortable talking to someone in game rather than in real life, face to face?

I understand that many people are very uncomfortable talking about this stuff, particularly the socially awkward types so I'm not really expecting any serious replies to this thread. I would like to say, however, that if this thread appeals to you and you're not comfortable discussing it openly on the forum, feel free to PM me or convo me in game so that we can discuss it in private. I'm always very eager to help those who feel a little lost and need a gentle nudge in the right direction Blink

When being depressed evolves into permanent hatred and rage, they go to nullsec and join an alliance.

Then they are lost forever.

When i feel sad and lonely in this game, i log my alt. Perkone is the best corp with the best people in this game <3 or i go in palas and shoot down miners.

Those are both great suggestions but some people just aren't comfortable with the more emotionally challenging aspects of the game, such as PvP.

It's because they are in highsec.

What a sad thing to say. INIT. is a really nice community; we are the manlove alliance.

I think that is a symptom of the problem, rather than the cause of it.

It would be pretty sweet if CCP removed the npc corps tax, it's one of the few public chat channels you can join, but the tax makes it kinda sucky.

I'm a relatively respectable citizen. Multiple felon perhaps, but certainly not dangerous.

The only thing that makes me sad is that everyone around me has billions and billions of isk, and I can count my millions on one hand :(
I don't mind being sad an lonely as long as I can be sad and lonely in a big ship rather than a frigate.

They dont want people hiding in the NPC corp to to avoid wardecs. Thats why they upped the tax, too much benefit not enough cost.

Eve turns people into paranoids, if they weren't paranoid already before joining up.
Get a PM from someone wanting to chat, first thing you think is "what do they want from me", second "where are they hiding, trying to get me to let my guard down".
Not conducive to making friends...

existence of NPC corp taxes shows a lot about "how good are player owned corporations in Eve" Cool

I play EVE to enjoy myself.

I would not think of EVE friends as real friends except for those I have actually met and consider a friend.

Let me smell your farts.

Side nited. I've only needed one real friend and I have one. I think most can agree to that need. Working on multiple friend ships is just tough.

Strange,

When out in the dead as a door nail null, I feel depressed that there's less than 100 systems in use

High sec with only you in it is a very unlikely situation to find yourself in
In null, it's "the norm".

Cheer up sleepy dreamers

There are good ships,

And wood ships,

And ships that sail the sea

Dito.

But, compared to other MMO's (which is a sin to do I know) it seems to be more difficult to get in touch with others here. Guess one of the reasons is the pure hugeness of space and another may be that local in hubs is permaspammed (paranoia of course too)... in another MMO there was usually kind of a chat in local, but well, maybe I just didn't find it yet.
