Constantly disconnecting

Ever since the last patch, I have been constatly disconnecting. Last night on our roam I must have disconnected 9-12 times! It's ridiculous! My client becomes unresponsive (everything works, but obviously disconnected), and I have to wait for "socket closed" or force quit the program in order to restart it.

I stay connected to the internet, since my teamspeak connection is fine and I can still browse the internet. I'm only running one client and not downloading anything except for playing the game. Please advise, as the game is unplayable at is is now.

Enter grid and you're already dead, destined to be reborn and fight another day.

Try shutting down your internet connection point (modem, or whatever) and home network router and letting them sit for a while before reconnecting them and starting EVE up again.

This issue has been going on for years and it is not Mac-specific. It started happening to me a few weeks ago; oddly enough, my husband (who also uses a Mac) could be playing at the same time and would not experience it. When it started happening to him, too, is when I finally got some troubleshooting. Forum searches on the matter seem to indicate that whatever is going on seems to be relieved on the users' end by the remedy I suggested above. It has stopped the socket closures for us, at least for now. Good luck.

Thanks! I will definitely try that!!!

I have been plagued by this for a ridiculous amount of time, up until recently. I would receive multiple socket errors whilst playing, making big fleets a no-go for me and also being unable to run 2 clients at once.

Who is your ISP?
What version of OSX are you on? Have you upgraded your OS since originally buying your Mac?
What router do you have?

The reason I ask, is because I basically traced this down to being an issue with the network card. I read several things about random disconnects (not just related to EVE however, but sometimes I do randomly get disconnected from IRC as well as EVE) and thought I would give these a try.

I can't find the exact article I read this from, but it suggested that I go to the Wi-Fi settings and create a new location(one that isn't Automatic, just call it 'Home' or something). I tried this and this didn't work. It then suggested I configure the MTU for the connection manually, and set it to 1453 rather than the default 1500. This is found under the Advanced tab on your Wi-Fi connection in net preferences. This helped, I got them less regularly but it still happened. I also tried renewing the DHCP Lease from the router (Again, Advanced but this time under TCP/IP). I still received the DC's and Desyncs however.

The next step I took, seemed to help drastically. I am on a Virgin Media Fibre Optic connection, so I have their Home Hub thing (which is utter toss), I changed the Wireless Band from 2.4GHz to 5GHz. I have had no problems since doing this.

It is worth mentioning though, that since I attributed this to my network card after all of this I also did a clean system install. I have a Mid-2009 MacBook Pro which originally came with 10.6 and I have always just straight upgraded through the App Store to each OS. I decided that doing a clean install would probably benefit me as I have had this HDD stacked with crap for the past 4 years now. I did a clean install straight to 10.8 (not back to 10.6) and my system stability overall has increased dramatically, i.e. fan speeds, memory usage etc. so if you have upgraded, I recommend backing up anything of importance and doing a complete reinstall as well as tweaking your router settings if available.

I know a lot of Mac fixes are generally system specific under certain circumstances but I hope this at least helps you work towards a fix towards yours, as this has plagued me for years with no real answer! If I manage to find the articles I will post them up but I can't find them at the time of writing.

-EDIT-
Found it!

FWIW I've had this for several months, and was close to unsubbing as it made the game unplayable, however, I noticed that it disconnected when I was also running something else using the net in the background such as a browser, torrent service etc...

Turning off absolutely everything in the background that may connect to the net seems to have fixed this and I haven't had this issue for well over a week now. Obviously there are still a host of other annoying bugs, but they aren't game breaking.
