Corporate Logo Merchandise

This isn't anything to do with the LP store, or the Noble Exchange.

Where do CCP stand on corporations using their corp logo on RL items such as t-shirts, hoodies and the like?

Any feedback gratefully appreciated.

The technical requirement for an alliance logo is a 128x128 72DPI RGB .PSD file. When you download the dev kit you will find NPC corp logo's of the same size. These are unsuitable for print (I assume you mean IRL hoodies etc). However, corp logo's are al combination of a couple of existing images, which could potentially be scaled up and reassembled / recolored.

Your request isn't 100% clear.

Are you asking if you can use CCP's logo?
Are you asking if you can use CCP's in-game corporation logos? (Guristas, Caldari Navy, etc...)
Or are you really asking if you can use your own corp logo on a t-shirt? (Silliest request, but it's the most literal interpretation)

I don't judge people by their race, religion, color, size, age, gender, or ethnicity. I judge them by their grammar, spelling, syntax, punctuation, clarity of expression, and logical consistency.

I'm asking, on behalf of one of my corpies, if one's own corporation logo can be used on a t-shirt or other similar apparel.

You may get a faster response if you file a petition to the GMs. Then you will know for certain that CCP has your attention. It may take a while but you'll get a response eventually. Please post back here when you do so that we can all know as well.

Interesting. Have told myself. Did you have any particular street in mind?

Didn't you create the logo?

Oh, I see - you're asking because it uses CCP's symbol editor. I was thinking alliance logo.

If you're making one for yourself or a few for corpies, I'm pretty sure there is no issue. If you're making them to sell, then you might want to make sure.

I'm in the same boat, there is a meet in September and I want to wear my Corp Logo with pride.

I don't want to have to sit and redraw it though (yes, I am lazy and it would mean more time out of game).

No, you were not blobbed, you just didn't bring enough people to the fight!

EVE Online EULA:
EVE defines content subject to the EULA within the game as "any content appearing within the Game environment, including without limitation characters, character attributes, items, currency, and objects..." and states that "You may not copy, distribute, rent, lease, loan, modify or create derivative works of, adapt, translate, perform, display, sublicense or transfer..." any of this content. Also, the EULA states that this content is extendable to "software code, programs, routines, subroutines, objects, files, data, characters (and items, currency, objects and attributes comprising or associated with a character or an Account), graphics, sound effects, music, animation, video, text, content, layout, design and other information downloaded from and accessible through the System (collectively, the "Game Content")...". So under these terms, graphical content (logos) are also covered under the terms of the EULA.

It's also worth noting this particular paragraph:

"B. Rights to Certain Content

You have no interest in the value of your time spent playing the Game, for example, by the building up of the experience level of your character and the items your character accumulates during your time playing the Game. Your Account, and all attributes of your Account, including all corporations, actions, groups, titles and characters, and all objects, currency and items acquired, developed or delivered by or to characters as a result of play through your Accounts, are the sole and exclusive property of CCP, including any and all copyrights and intellectual property rights in or to any and all of the same, all of which are hereby expressly reserved..."

With these statements, CCP designed logos and player-designed logos fall squarely within the same brackets under "intellectual property" and "graphics" content. If you are going to be selling / distributing this stuff check with CCP first. If you are organising out-of-game events and wanting to use this stuff check with CCP first and document the discussion. You have to be careful with this stuff in this day and age. I take it that because you posted your intent on the forum you are thinking of distribution and not just making a T-shirt for yourself. Plus you used the word "merchandise" in your post title which CCP could throw back at you should they take action on this topic.

I fail to see what your sexual preference has to do with your understanding of legal documents.

Having been to Fanfest a few times now, I can tell you that CCP have no problem with this.

They might frown on people using *their* ingame content (Guristas bunny etc), but an alliance logo created by a member of your alliance should not pose a problem.

He's talking about the corporation logo, which contains graphics supplied by CCP. As stated before check it in with CCP by opening a petition. I suppose they don't consider it a problem if it's for own use rather than for distribution but you probably want to be sure on that part.

Why on Earth would you want to spend RL monies making t-shirts with those God awful logos? Frankly, they're crap. I don't care how much time you spend making your corp logo, the elements available are horrid. 90% of the alliances out there are just so a custom logo can be submitted.

And the answer to any response you get from CCP is going to be "No". Why? Because it will cost CCP money to craft a contract for you to sign stating what you can/can't do with their intellectual property just so you can attempt to use it for free with no profit motive on your part.

I had an answer to a petition, essentially a redirect to another department. I haven't had an answer to the email I sent, but no worries. If anything, I expect we'll use a player generated design that has no immediate affiliation to EVE, nor uses any of CCP's graphics, so we're covered.
