MEGAPOWERGRAPHTIME! Or wait wasn't it megamorphingsomethingtime? Never mind.

tl;dr just showing lame graphs on how the new forum are slower than the old ones, yes very pointless.

I've noticed that the forums do feel slower than they used to (thinking the old ones) so I decided to check it out and there was a noticeable change after the change to these new fancy forums.

Using my wicked excel skills - linkage - to graph up some statistics.

Numbers are based upon the time it takes for EVE-Seach to index the forum.

Graph#1; Average time it takes for one run to complete, splitted up this in smaller portions to see how the average was affected - we can see the graphs taking off upwards after the release of the new forums (the small dip on the right)

Graph#2; Run in seconds all time for comparison, again the runs get longer and increase more after the release of the forums

Graph#3; Same as #2 but only for 2011, the gap between the old and new forums are imo quite clear

So CCP your forums do load imo a lot slower (not to mention the ganked showing up pretty often). Some of the increase is obviously tied into more posts and threads being created than before adding to longer runs, but the lines do not follow the post increase so part of the increase is that the pages take longer time to load. Optimization needed?

did you add the time needed to login everytime you load in the old forums?

Funny.
The forums are loading much faster for me,
compared to the old one.

It's not a render issue, because i've been using IE and Opera,
for Opera being one of the fastest browsers anyway.

It's a sad day when Chribba has a whine thread.

I agree Chribba. But, I'm sure you feel it more than we mere mortals.

The login is quick and only done once. It does not add 30 sec to a run

And I am fully aware that the actual extra load time per page is not seconds, but every little extra here and there adds up over time. I personally blame the SSL P

For those that are fortunate to have the forum load quicker than before, got any tricks? bc it's way slower for me than it used to be.

EVE-Search only pulls pure text, no css/js/images so that would not affect EVE-Search.

Forum I/O is probably a lot busier - concurrently - than the old forums, for one reason :- Old forums had a posting timer, these new forums do not have such a limitation.

Well, you have 510.0KiB of JavaScript that is being parsed during initial page load maybe that slows it down for Chribba?

All hail Chribba's wicked excel skills!

And I agree, new forums feels overall slower (not counting the numerous ganks), but not so much that I'm bothered.
Count in the ganks however...

Well, tbh the feeling i get is that it has something to do
with the pictures on the old forum.

No ... not of the forum, like the avatar pictures.
Those around the forum. The top one
and the left navigation bar.

*lol* can't be more precise, sadly ...

Anyway, NOW i realize you're actually talking
about response time (pure text), not complete loading time.............

Chrome

reading comprehension

Chribba is talking about the time it takes the server to send the page, not about anything browser-related.

@Chribba could you use the rss feeds? maybe they are faster (different presentation/view code)...
Does your client use HTTP compression? might be faster might be slower, maybe try it.

Seems he's talking about the time it takes to display a page to him.

I'm saying for me the page loads just as fast as with all the other forums I....frequent

And I'm using Chrome; hence why I said "Chrome". Chrome uses "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V8_(JavaScript_engine)" so any page using Javascript should, in theory, load faster with Chrome than with IE or FF (can't comment on Opera).

Yeah, let me define the "load" time I am talking about.

The feel I have is that the forum load (eg I click the link and the page is displayed) in my regular browser, which made me look at the stats - the stats HOWEVER - are pure request+transfer times.

EVE-Search is not a browser, it's a custom written indexing robot that just requests pages - the pure HTML. So the values in the graphs are more response times and transfer times, rather than "load" times.

So the graphs showing it takes longer to receive the page does point towards that pages are delivered slower - and has nothing to do with how fast a browser can display the page, it's pure response times (almost).

:P

It's probably the HTTP-S, I don't recall seeing the encryption on the old forums; never really paid attention either. It could also be because now the forum server(s) is/are now linked with the game database server(s).

For those who don't understand what I mean, click a name and you'll see what I mean. It's [almost] everything you can see in-game by doing a "Show Info".

In short, forum server(s) is/are dealing with more requests and sends (view a bio, or update bio via web) in addition to the HTML requests. Thought EVE-S still seems to be just as fast as before.
