Most DPS - Titan or Dread ?

Hi ya'll

I am not yet a Dread owner, but I hope to be soon. I was looking at stats and info and I've been playing with eft. I was wondering about the DPS difference between a Dread and a Titan. Obviously, I'm not trying to decide which to buy, I'm just wondering out of curiousity.

In my eft, it looks like a Titan can do about 9000 to 10000 dps. Without a Seige Module, the Dread can do about 1250 to 1400 dps. But when the Dread activates a siege module, it suddenly is doing like over 10,500 dps.
Although my eft might be a little out of date.

My questions are this: Does a Dread in siege mode really do more dps than a Titan?

And if so, what are the main benefits of having a Titan? I know they can jump fleets. Is that the main advantage?

Thank you for your responses. I'm just curious.

Titans arent used so much for their guns anymore; they cannot hit subcaps unless they are very heavily target painted, and as you discovered they do not do more DPS than dreads or significantly more than a supercarrier against structures.

Their biggest asset is the ability to insert subcapitals wherever you can light a cyno, but the doomsday is also a powerful tool. It essentially one-shots dreads and most carriers or if used in numbers can take down other supercapital ships.

E: Forgot to mention, but titans also provide very powerful gang bonuses to ships in their fleet based on the titan shiptype. Avatar and Erebus bonuses (cap recharge rate and armor HP bonus, respectively) are essential for any serious supercapital fleet to be used at full potential.

Titans were admittedly too powerful when they could kill pretty much every subcap with their guns, but right now there is not a huge reason to use them in any direct combat situation when dreads, carriers, and supercarriers can provide the same utility at far lower cost. For now, they are pretty much relegated to the inside of the POS shield, which also means that they hardly ever die unless the pilot makes major mistakes such as misclicking his jump button. Kind of a underwhelming state of affairs for the largest ships in the game but hopefully CCP will eventually make them useful without being horridly overpowered like in the AOE doomsday or blap titan days.

Destoya,

Ah yes, I forgot about the doomsday device. And I forgot how it changed. I was new the game back when it was a massive smartbomb-style device that killed nearly all sub-caps nearby.

Thank you for your info.

If you're not sure which you want, ask your corp mates which would serve the corp better.

Though dreads have one major advantage: You can dock them. Which means that when you feel like flying something else, you don't need a second character to hold it.

You can also buy 50 dreads for the price of a single titan.
