"The Empires are losing their grasp on power." - What If...?

Ever since I saw the Odyssey trailer, this one sentence has been bugging me.

I think the empires themselves no longer wield any significant power, not at least in the traditional sense, meaning they no longer have a monopoly on the legitimate use of violence. Ever since CONCORD was created to be the enforcer, the empires lost their monopoly on violence, and with it, the majority of their political power. They now simply exist to maintain the balance by funding CONCORD to keep crime in check, and rely on mercenary armies of capsuleers and DUST troopers to fight their wars for them.

Now, for the What If: what if capsuleers decided to take matters into their own hands? CONCORD, being a manifested deus ex machina, could keep any capsuleer incursion into Empire territory at bay, but what if they decided to sit back, and only police capsuleer-capsuleer interactions?
We have Navy-issue ships on the market, available for all. We know they are powerful, but far from invincible, and can be taken down just like any other vessel, no matter how skilled their pilot is. If CONCORD didn't intervene, it could be possible to destroy Navy patrols, and with enough firepower, even stations and other installations.

Do you think a sufficiently organized capsuleer fleet could challenge the current status quo, and topple the empires themselves?

No.

We can't even get better than 15% turnout for an election.

I don't judge people by their race, religion, color, size, age, gender, or ethnicity. I judge them by their grammar, spelling, syntax, punctuation, clarity of expression, and logical consistency.

Nothing, I'm just perceptive, and studied political science. Since politics is politics, no matter where you are, in Europe, the US, China, Caldari Prime, or Amarr, the basic principles are just as equally applicable.

I wasn't thinking of an election, I was thinking of a real in-game power shift: the great nullsec empires bringing their firepower to bear against the "NPC" empires, just like the map in the introduction video shows. I think there would be interest in that, unlike a Stellar Council election.

I see this will be our weekly 'Highsec unite / Herding cats" thread.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

Lol @ polisci

Anyways, if you read more about the lore I do believe all four factions have huge standing navy's and the only reason they don't have all out warfare is because of peace treaties made in the past.

Plus, as you said they have capsulers to so their bidding, so why risk trillions of isk and man power?

Go watch CCP Seagull at fanfest vaguely describe "planetary conquest" (or something like that), then re-watch the video. Your post will be 10x longer with all kinds of ideas where all this might go.

The Empires will just cite blue on blue violence and use it as a scapegoat to ban all combat vessels from the public, and register who has them now so the space gestapo can come get them when they are ready to make their move.

You make a valid point, good Sir or Madam.

CCP need to create a new 6th Empire... Goonswarm :)

After all once they have finished with Test and Friends they will have so much isk (not that there poor or anything) but there will be simply nobody left who can beat them so might as well make them an official Empire :)

There already is a skill for Sovereignty and Empire management, why not make it so that you can form Empires composed of Alliances with these (in addition to increasing the member cap on your corp)? :D

Turn them all into little red pluses that you can shoot anywhere, anytime?

Read more into the lore. Capsuleers are children playing with toys compareed to the main political powers. We struggle to build titans, the empires had super titans years ago. They stripmine moons to the point of destruction to build those.

Capsuleers need to be given the ability to fight for the pirate factions. This would open up an incredible number of doors for emergent gameplay, PvP, market opportunities, politics, and all kinds of fun things if properly supported.

But there's the problem: If properly supported.

As your future mission agent I promise you'll never have to rescue the damsel again. In fact, the only source of LP in New Eden will be obtainable by reacting the tears of your fellow pod-pilot (as so regulated and metred out by us).

With everyone going out of their way to ruin the day of everyone else New Eden will finally live up to it's promise of a cold and harsh universe simulator.

+1 good idea 10/10 should be in the next expansion

Wrong ... You should read some lore , Capsuleers are demigods ingame and in lore , all empires are afraid of uss , the war's are won by oure support to a cause . The Gallente were afraid to start the war on caldar during Tibus Heth rising because of capsuleer's .

Start with Empyrean Age , then chronicles . It tookk empires great effort to build titan's , and they were like ultimate demonstration of power . Big alliances lose titans like they were nothing . Heck Thuker/minmatar threatened Concord with how many 16 capitals ?!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fCVyU4RbFEg

Also check the "BROOKER" he alone is probably more of a god then a man , he can manipulate people , corporations entire empires . He can decide who and what will be doing .

Tibus Heth was a suicide pissed off ex soldier who went on a kamikadze mission . He made him head of the CALDARI EMPIRE ,
He started the war between galente and caldari , The nyx which went in ishukone station was his work ...

There was one of the last trailer's were the they actually showed a man checking an expanding map and how they lose grounds .
Oure power is unlimitted , oure wealth has no bounds ... And we are immortal .

(mega corp's for example have profits in "billions") .... We have trillions .

If capsuleers would unite for a single cause , they would be unstopable ... afaik for concord or even all 4 empires put toghether :|

But of course there is (pirates some are actually strong , drone rogues , and JOVIANS)

Opportunities multiply as they are seized.

Oh there's a cake alright.

I know it exists because it appears that everybody wants to have that cake and eat it too.

As for incursions by players into highsec... that's funny. Highsec players are making incursions into nullsec. Yet there's no concord to stop them.

So it's kind of funny, and showing how much like sheep people are. They join some nullsec alliance and get bored, and then they come up with these "emergent" ideas in highsec. They would be having more fun (if they were not sheep) staying in highsec and making incursions into nullsec.
