I was really excited by bounties, finally a system that works, and a means for players to get indirect revenge on those that wronged them. More importantly, it would finally allow the bounty hunter profession, which CCP has been advertising FOREVER, to become a reality.

However, with everyone bountied, its completely useless. It boils down to nothing more than an tiny extra bit of isk from anyone you randomly kill, and bragging rights (btw, my bounty is bigger than your bounty! Blink). Those at the top of the bounty hunter list didn't get there by actively hunting down worthy prey, they did so at complete random, lucking out by killing targets with high bounty in a shiny ship. The bounty hunter profession is still dead.

The only good thing has been transferable kill rights, but ultimately i'd argue that its only helped the highsec gankers rather than hinder them (feel free to post if you feel this is wrong, and why). I mean, they get a share of their own bounty for gods sake!

Personally, i believe that those that follow the law, and have a high security standing, should be completely immune from bounties. Only those that flaunt the law and walk the darkside of EvE should have to deal with them.

But as it stands, we should all just get used to all of new eden being WANTED.

Post with your main, like a BOSS!

And no, i don't live in highsec.  As if that would make your opinion any less wrong.

I got 100m bounty from a single toon once, and a couple mill bounties from other people. By flying and losing only frigates these bounties lasted about 5 months. Funnily, I never ever got a bounty from a miner I blew up.

It was really a waste of money for the bountyers because I never got blown up by anyone purely with the intention of getting the bounty, yet it still depleted the bounty anyway, they might as well just given their isk out to randoms in local for all the good it did.

Highlighted the point I want to discuss.

A bounty is given by other players, not by concord or through reflection of security status. bounties are (as I pointed out earlier) just a way of letting people know that to someone, you are worth more dead than alive. Someone (for whatever reason) wishes you to be pursued during your exploits, even if it's just mining Veldspar Blink

It's not about if you break the law or not. It's about how you have affected another player. Or, it is about how another player wishes to affect you. Concord etc are for lawbreakers. Bounties don't take the law into account. Rightly so as they are not designed exclusively for law disputes

I can feel the point that, maybe, is affecting you, lets try: You have a wallet almost as big as my handsomeness, a guy come and start to be, somewhat, an issue or, at least, an annoying thing to your business. You want to make him stop and you put a huge bounty on him just because you can.

Now, lets suppose your business Char is on a NPC Corp and cannot be wardeced or is in a disposable Corp to play Jita 4/4 and just leave the Corp to avoid the effects of a war, so, you are saying that doing what you want with other ppl and having mechanics that make you immune to their response is ok? That is it?Roll

I put a bounty on someone for undercutting me on a batch of shuttles in a well trafficked area, I see no problem with the bounty system as it stand.

Can they counter it? Yes, there ARE ways to counter it. They could retaliate in kind, "outpricing" the original bounty until the aggressor (the one who first placed the bounty) decides they cannot spare the isk to beat that bounty. After all, the higher the bounty, the more people will shoot at that player when they fly in the big seats.

What you're effectively saying is "I'm in a situation where I cannot be wardecced, or can easily rremove myself from said situation if I choose. Nothing should be able to counter this."
Apparently, it doesn't work like that. Which is good, because nobody should be "immune" to aggressive action (apart from forever remaining in a station).

Bounties work where the word please, does not.

Take my example of putting a bounty on someone who undercut me (I did send them a polite letter explaining how I saw things). I had no desire to hunt them down and risk being killed in the process. However, with that extra incentive, there are plenty of people who would.

Would the person stop undercutting me if I simply asked nicely? Take a wild guess at that one.

I have to agree... wasting countless hours of dev time just to code the effect of a dead rat hanging off a pilot's upper lip... scandalous.

If nothing else, a little inter-galactic egalitarianism is called for -- let the ladies have the option of hanging a rat, too. P
