Not QQ-ing on the matter, just disappointed.

I've encountered this quite often in high-sec. I scan a new DED site and start to destroy the rats. Then when I'm about to enter the last section, someone enters, hurries to the next gate and grabs the target with the best loot.

I understand it's all part of the sandbox, but what options do I have? Is it just a matter of more dps on my ship ? Or can something else be done about it?

please note: wardecs are not an option as I'm in an npc corp. And neither is a suicide gank, btw. :-)

Be either faster, stronger, or smarter. Preferably a combination of the three.

Things that will not help: "not QQing" on the forums.

More DPS or make it faster. Or both.

I have had this ALOT. Pretty much got two options (If you know you can't beat them to the end of the DED site):

a) Move systems. (I moved 30 jumps to get away from people doing it (across the map of empire space))
b) Attack them. One of three things will happen here:

1) You get CONCORDed but you blow their ship up (instant satisfaction).
2) They provide you with a hail of fire and blow you up as CONCORD arrive on scene.
3) CONCORD kills you.

Unfortunately, there really is naff all you can do in this situation other than mark them as red on contacts and remember them... Remember them and when you're in a corp that can pvp, go hunting!

Yes, it really is annoying.

Quoted from Doc Fury: "Concerned citizens: Doc seldom plays EVE on the weekends during spring and summer, so you will always be on your own for a couple days a week. Doc spends that time collecting kittens for the on-going sacrifices, engaging in reckless outdoor activities, and speaking in the 3rd person."

Congrats OP. You're the first person to bring up this problem...

...In the last hour.

ETA: I'll help you. Your option is to go to lowsec. There, anyone coming into your plex is coming to kill you for your ****. The bonus is that you can attempt to kill them first, with no silly CONCORD intervention.

if you were killing rats when the gate was unlocked then... why were you shooting at the rats?

read on the sites, carry in your hold the gold tags, hacker cards, etc to skip rooms. learn the triggers, kill only the dps that you need to sustain your tank while you kill and loot the lootship. and above all, deal faction specific damage and fit a faction specific tank. use faction ammo or T2, depending on the target. carry paste to repair the modules that you should be overloading, etc, etc.

a faction specific tank that pushes resists up to 70% therm/kin tank can make sites like the serpentis 4/10 extremely easy to tank. a caracal can do it with t2 hams, and since the last ship is a battleship you will apply the paper DPS shooting rage missiles. i know that for a new player that might be pushing it, but the same tank on a drake will pretty much make the drake invulnerable to the rats. and require a lot less training.

if you can afford it the pirate variants like the gila can make highsec sites even faster than with the old t3.

remember that the people that fly around blitzing those sites are pushing their tanks to the limit. often they fit omnitanks so they don't have to refit, so if they steal your stuff follow them and if you have a few catalysts and a few corpmates, help the NPCs defend their overseer!. Pirate

Mmm, I suppose you need to actually read the post before you answer. I am not complaining on the matter, it's just frustrating to see all the work you did flushed down the drain.

Well, if this is encountered a lot (wasn't aware of that many people post about it), perhaps CCP could look into it. It would definitely help new players with their exploration efforts. On the matter of low-sec, I've thought about it, because you can at least fire at them without CONCORD interference, but I'll do the option Seraph Essael provided.

Thanks for that Seraph, I'll move systems to a hopefully remote area that hardly anyone visits. And also thanks to everyone else providing feedback and tips. It's appreciated.

It's encountered a lot, but it's not a problem to be addressed. It's a system, that is working exactly like intended. Exploration is a competition sport both in doing the sites and in the loot department. The raw ISK you get from the sites is pathetic compared to other activities, so it's the potential loot drops, that make it at all worthwhile. It's important to stress the point, that no one owns the sites and the final drop belongs to you only when it's in your cargobay. Until that point it's free for everyone to get. As long as you don't act according to this, you're going to be the loser in those races and making terrible threads about how someone else should do something about it, so you don't have to.

Exploration in highsec has some unique peculiarities though. The most important is, that highsec aggression rules mean immediately aggressing the competition isn't an option, so it leans heavily towards speed racing for the final target. There are some occasional fights when people go suspect, but that happens only in a small percentage of total number of sites done. Until you've got the final loot drop safely in your cargobay you need to ignore all secondary considerations and targets. You also need to fit your ship with high DPS and speed in mind. Everything you do to prepare for the sites and your actions in the sites should be filtered through this simple question: "Will this allow me to complete the site faster?".

They get suspect flagged if they loot a wreck that belongs to you (i.e. the wreck of an NPC you blew up) so a suicide gank isn't necessary.

They can, however, shoot back without consequences if you decide to engage them when they're flagged. So there's that.

You can leave hi-sec, the competition in low-sec is not as bad as hi-sec, at lease it's possible to find less crowded areas.

If you want to stay in hi-sec you can start flying faster ships, there are some really good T2 and faction cruisers, or you can fly with a PvP fit and just kill the guy stealing your loot.

PvP'ing in the exploration sites does require that you get the kill and the other guy steals the loot, which it not always what happens, if he gets the kill there is really not much you can do, except try and steal it from him.

How dare you ask a question in here!
Ofc the crusty hole munchers will shoot you down with their normal "U R QQing!!!1omg!1!!" line.
Personally I love it, CCP wants moar subs, and yet the scum drive them away! yeehaw! Roll

[b][i]Eve is like the way that gun law equals a lot of deaths followed by a lot of people being real nice to each other, well, it would be if we all had our names and address posted on our character info! I wonder just how many players would still act like assholes? Fly safe, and lock your back door tonight

Which is why EVE has grown in size every year for ten years, amirite?

EVE is a wretched hive of scum and villainy. And I wouldn't have it any other way.

That said, it's nice having people like you around. I need loot pinatas to distract the gankers from my activities.

that's called "blitzing" - it works best when someone else is in the complex. kill the !MANDATORY! rats then make a dash for the boss, kill it, loot it, and bug out.
