So I wonder, does the cloned soldier technology from Dust 514 have a limited range?

according to Templar One, it does.

I remember that they had a mobile clone carrier of some sort a ways away from the battle, that contained nothing but empty clones. and apparently that's the explanation for one side "running out of reinforcements" and losing a battle that way.

I think you're referring to the MCC, mobile command center.
And while yes clones are a limited commodity, if for example a cloned soldier gets stuck without a MCC (The objective of two game modes is to destroy the MCC's) on the ground, and dies, is he forever lost?
Or how about when the MCC runs out of clones?

Is there a good article on the difference between Dust 514 clone technology and Capsuleer clone technology? I am pretty new to EVE, came here via Dust 514.. and find myself unsure of the differences.

At some point (when the interfaces are much more complete) I'd like to bring my Dust merc under the same Capsuleer corp that I play under now, but want to make sure I understand the whos, whys, and whats before I do that.

That's not limited range of the cloning technology, that's limited range on how far away from the action a soldier can be deployed and be of any actual use. Even with an LAV or dropship to help them get there in semi-reasonable time, being deployed ten kilometers from the battle is going to sharply limit how effective the soldier is in that particular fight.

Given that we're talking about the transmission of data here, there's no reason for it not to be sent by fluid router FTL comms, same way as with a capsuleer. Maybe the backpack on your dropsuit, as well as being your power supply, also contains a fluid router.

And given that it's a "constant stream of consciousness even at the moment of death" system, it doesn't matter if the router gets destroyed and can't transmit because you just load the information that it's already sent into the new clone. Presumably, they're buffering the trooper's neural information somewhere. The pod pilot's burst transmission is much more fragile in that regard.

This would also explain how you get back to your MQ after the battlenet. TacNet shuts down, your suit euthanizes you, and you step out of your MQ's CRU back home.

Thanks, that was helpful :)
