Petition for name purging

You can have your names reset when Tranq has a full reset.

I used to have 'Officer Dibble' but biomassed some time ago. I did not whine when I found the name taken later.

I know CCP is hopeful of them ever coming back, but this is not a reason for them to be able to clog up the good names.

So i suggest CCP would allow for a taken name to be changed into *faction name here* Citizen *number here*

If you want to have a name cleared and you have figured out that this character just doesn't play anymore ( for at least 3 years ), petition CCP to change that characters name and then you can make a new char with that name.

I have to say no as well. Once a name has been used, it has been used. No need for it to be reset.

The only names I would agree to being "released" (so to speak) are those from trial accounts that never (EVER) subscribed (be it by RL monies or activating a PLEX). If they subbed even one month, that character's here for the duration.

De'Veldrin's Corollary (to Malcanis' Law): Any idea that seeks to limit the ability of a large nullsec bloc to do something in the name of allowing more small groups into sov null will inevitably make it that much harder for small groups to enter sov null.

They can't - it would screw up the employment history tabs, on older toons especially.

That, and the account should have remained untouched for a suitably long period (10 years?). I'm not convinced name wipes are at all necessary, but were CCP to decide to head in this direction everything should be done to make sure potential returnees are not inconvenienced and the only characters affected are those who we can all be pretty sure are not coming back.

If you havent played in 4 or 5 years it's fair to say you're not going to come back. Sure some do but 99.999% that have been gone that long don't (a dev is welcome to put together a pretty graph telling us how many do come back after being gone x years but until they do I'm gonna say 99.999% for 4-5 years). If you aren't playing then you have no claim to your char's names. There is a merit in clearing those trial accounts that weren't (re)activated at all for a year: it'll make database a little bit smaller and easier to maintenance.

I hope, I will never cross the way of Luke Skywalker, or Han Solo in New Eden. Please guys make your own story don't steal the soul of already great characters as if their were yours.

Try to be creative, and stop with Gandalf, Legolas, Drak Vador, Darth Vader, and so on... An Homage, like Jack Skywalker, have his taste but seriuosly?

From my perspective - characters on old trail accounts should be removed, also old alliances and corporations that have 0 members.
You cannot revive them - and they take names/tickers.

From CCP side to manage this will not be problem.
Corporations have unique numbers and it is not a problem to just add (Closed) tag in players history to dead corporations.

We talking about tons of this kind of corporations.
Tons.


As for inactive characters - well people often come back.
Some people have multiple accounts and pay only for ones they use.

Also, some of the taken names are by people who have saved the name for themselves by making an alt. -1 on the OPs idea. It is silly.



This only makes it stand out more that you're unoriginal. Unoriginal AND not the first, haha, that's sad.

Just like all those Vasilii Zaytsev/Vazili Saytsev/Vas1li1 s4tsev Sniper Wolfos in shoot em up games. God I hate that.
