So after 6 years CCP decide to ask me to change Stargate SG-1's name.

Having been a dedicated team of players in Eve for 6 years it comes to this, I first thought it was a scam mail lol. As im sure you can all imagine this will ofcourse cause issue with all of the SG-1 players. Some joined up literally to be part of a corp with a well known name. So we are going to fight it, im sure if we lose Eve will be a worse place without us, some will quit eve, maybe I will include myself on that.

So, we are going to take steps towards securing our name.

We will scrutinise CCP's EULA, just to see if changes were made AFTER the augmentation of SG-1 in game.

We will approach Syfy (MGM), who hold the copyrights on the Stargate SG-1 name and ask them for permission to use. Also, Syfy have NO copyright restrictions on the name, so technically its not a EULA breach.

CCP be warned we will fight it all the way..............................

Firstly, don't quote GM messages in the forums, youre just going to be locked. Secondly, its going to be locked anyway and they will tell you to file a petition.

If youre that bothered...file a petition.

Although I would be a little miffed if it had been me, theres nothing we on the forums can do...

I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to discuss this on the forums.
Understandably it's a name that in undoubtedly trademarked though, so generally you aren't allowed to use them in any game as the game owner is liable for the breach. It's a shame, but it happens.
Take it as a good opportunity for your members to band together and pick a new name. Should be a uniting exercise.

It's under Your Account, section B, 3rd alinea:

"You are encouraged to use a pseudonym, but you may not choose a name that violates anyone's trademarks, publicity rights or other rights. Acceptance of a pseudonym by the System does not mean that your chosen pseudonym does not violate anyone's rights. You are responsible for any liability incurred by yourself, CCP or anyone else due to the pseudonym you choose. CCP retains the right to reject any pseudonym it determines, in its sole discretion, is unlawful, indecent, obscene or otherwise violates standards of good taste."

And CCP can do as they please:

PROPRIETARY RIGHTS, Section B, 1st Alinea:

"You have no interest in the value of your time spent playing the Game, for example, by the building up of the experience level of your character and the items your character accumulates during your time playing the Game. Your Account, and all attributes of your Account, including all corporations, actions, groups, titles and characters, and all objects, currency and items acquired, developed or delivered by or to characters as a result of play through your Accounts, are the sole and exclusive property of CCP, including any and all copyrights and intellectual property rights in or to any and all of the same, all of which are hereby expressly reserved."

Reads like a pretty standard EULA with the usual Clauses.

CCP can do what they want, since you don't own the account nor anything associated with the account including Corporations.
It is also explicitly stated you can't use Trademarked or anything related to another ones rights as a name. (although this one is stated to be for characters)

TLDR; you dun goofed, CCP is always in the right since you don't own anything associated with your account.
