Who has gone from 1200p to 1440p or 1600p? How noticeable is the gameplay experience and graphics? Would you do it again? Any negatives to doing this? 3770k @ 4.6 & Titan so power isn't a problem I would think on my end. I have been thinking very hard about a U2711 or U3014 to add to my U2412M. Thanks Blink

Just text reading tbh. UI doesn't scale very well at those resolutions.

This is as nice as I get. Best quote ever https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=4137165#post4137165

Rule #1 of EVE screen real-estate: more is more.
Increased vertical space is particularly beneficial since so much is organised in vertical lists. The only downside is that you might have to increase the speed and/or acceleration on your mouse.

So in short, 16:10 is better in EVE than 16:9 correct?

16:10 is better for everything. 16:9 is bollocks.

16:9 is widescreen TV format (Aspect ratio really)
16:10 is a flat panel monitor format (Aspect ratio)
pretty much

I run a pair of 1440s and have eve at 2880x900, lots of real estate for boxes and lists

Just picked up two 24 inch 1920x1080 last night to run EVE at 3840x1080. Soooo much better than my old setup (2720x768). The vertical really makes a difference in what you fit on the screen and how its organized.

27 inch with 1920x1080 and i still can't see single pixels so i dont see any reason why you would go any higher than 1080p. higher resolution just means lower fps. the textures in eve arent good enough to give you "better" graphics if you use anything above 1080p.
before you go higher res get higher hz first. i'd never go down to 60hz for games ever again since i have 120hz, makes much more of a difference than a resolution above 1080p

because 1080p is small, has less pixels. 120hz can be more fluid but it has less pixels. They also tend to be tn panels which are horrible and input lag is no different to a good ips.

More pixels means more space on screen for overviews, chat/intel windows, cargo, drone bays, fleet windows, dscan etc. It's easy enough to fill up a 1440p screen with that. If you do big fleet battles and are part of a large alliance you need all the pixels you can.

Higher than 1080 doesn't automatically mean lower fps, that is a crock of ****. At 1440p you start running into vram problems but eve is not a taxing game visually, the textures aren't large enough. Even in a 1000 ship fight the only thing that causes slow down is tidi.

Yeah I've had my share of TN panels and dislikes them for the most part. Love me some IPS haha. I'm currently at work this week playing on a 17.3" laptop which isn't bad at all but once I get home I'll be able to check out wha dual U2412m's bring to the table. From what I'm gathering it'll be a rap party haha! Thanks everyone for your input and experiences with the pros and cons to resolution questions. Yeah I'm Green as hell with eve but I'm trying to start of right an enjoying every second of this game, sucks I'm only finding out about it soo many years later as it seems I've got a ways to go before I'm actually able to be competitive and worth anything in Nullsec LOL!

Dude...

Don't listen to any of the luddites spewing their bullshit here. I got 13 PC's here, 7 of them running EVE. I have 22 Inch monitors, 27 Inch monitors, and 2 30 Inch Monitors. The 30 Inch monitors (U3011 and WFP3007) running EVE at 2560 x 1600 are sbsolutely spectactuar compared to pathetic 1080P. I also have one 27 Inch Dell running at 2560 x 1440 right beside a 27 inch running at 1920 x 1080. I can't believe I ever thought 1080P looked good, even 2560 x 1440 is beautiful.

If you have the money, go for the U3014. I promise you will NOT be sorry...and forget about the crap about big pixels, small pixels, purple pixels, ****** pixels, etc. Anyone dissing big has likely never seen it...

Everyone is always repeating the mantra "Don't Trust Anyone" ad nauseum... If I can't trust the guys I play with, why bother playing with them at all? Fly Solo...

Confirming that anything higher than 1080p is worth whatever extra you can spend.

Even 1920x1280 is not much more expensive and makes a very noticeable difference, the ones that can pivot to portrait mode are especially handy.

This.

I recently upgraded to a Dell U3011 and the difference between 2560x1600 and my previous 1920x1200 are like night and day.

Name a shrub after me.  Something prickly and hard to eradicate.

For shooters and the like I think it's best to have a 120hz (or 144hz) monitor, for fluid response, and those are limited to 1080p atm (the good ones anyway). So if you're going to use your monitor for different games, that's something to keep in mind.

For Eve though, I'd say bigger is better. In fact, why stop at 1440 ? The next step in resolution is called '4K' and is 3840x2160. In a few years time it will dominate PC gaming, since it will be the main difference between top end PCs and consoles.

Here are some shots of Eve at 4K :

4K Example 1
4K Example 2
4K Example 3

Monitors like the ASUS PQ321 are able to run 2160p native, or you could downsample well on a top end 120hz screen and still have good refresh.

2160p is heavy of course - it can run even overclocked SLI Titans to their absolute limits, though Eve is still more cpu-bound that titles like Metro / Crysis 3, where I see them pinned on 99% load with 4-5gb video ram usage on each card.

But my favourite visual experience in Eve was a pipebombing run on a digital projector. Sure, the aliasing can never match the perfection of a 2160p image - but you can't beat a five metre space volcano on your wall.

Ive got PPP eyefinity (3x24" combined = 42" at 3240x1920 aspect ratio 16 : 9,5) , stripped monitors from their covers = only 9mm bezels) and the difference is huuuge. You can easily see the whole list of ships at Jita 4-4 undock in the overview at the prime time. You can have more windows open etc. Flying through space at that resolution and 42" is simply amazing and near-real experience :)

Man i cannot wait for cheap 32" 4K monitors and put them together for PPP. That will be 55" at 6480x3840 :P

I remember playing Star Trek on 80x25.

Currently playing EVE on 2560 x 1440, and not much has changed: "what am I doing here? Should I go there or there? Oh never mind, I just got blown up, time to start again."
