Get drunk (or do something that puts you in an altered state). Do the first thing that comes to mind.

Alternatively... get drunk (or do something that puts you in an altered state) and talk to everyone you see (especially in low-sec). Ask that you join them and ride on their coattails for however long you can.

No offense but you probably learned this on the playground when you were 3 and this post seems like more of an excuse to ramble on about your gender and personal identity issues.

Consider therapy IRL.

I tried therapy once. The therapist told me to ramble on about my gender and personal identity issues...

Everyone is always repeating the mantra "Don't Trust Anyone" ad nauseum... If I can't trust the guys I play with, why bother playing with them at all? Fly Solo...

Well you seem to handle trolls quite well, so what ever you do in EvE will be easier for you than for some others. The best advice is to find a good corporation that uses voip all the time. EvE is a great game that gets even better when you have people to talk to about it. I personally have been enjoying the industry side of things, so I found a small corp that focuses on that. We mine, some run missions, others manufacture. We've got a POS set up with a second on its way and we've been looking into PI. We work together toward common goals. That is the heart of a good MMO, and EvE is a great MMO.

anyway. Find a corp, pay for EvE with RL cash.

Ive worked solo for the last several years and I barely log in anymore. I spent more time actively playing them game when I had other people around - they will become your motivation and provided you with additional opportunities you couldn't get yourself.

also: do combat. It should always be your aim to be involved in conflict.

It took me quite a while to find what I do now, and involved a lot of overdoing too many ideas at once and burning out a few times, but now I have found something which I really enjoy doing, and is as intensive or not as I want it to be.

I tried PvE, PvP, Mining before I found trading, and then I tried a ton of different ways of trading, some more successful than others, but all too intensive. I tried manufacturing a few times, and couldnt really get into it.
Then, out of nowhere I got into a different style of trading and manufacturing, and it suddenly clicked, and I had found my niche in Eve.

Do a little bit of everything.

Run missions, mine, produce, trade, explore, do PI, enroll in faction warfare etc.

Most mechanics in EVE are the same, no matter if you have lvl 1 or lvl 5 skills. So it's pretty fast and easy to figure out if any of the CCP provided gameplay fits your playing style.

However, even if you find something, there's a good chance you'll grow bored of it eventually.

Most people "enhance" their gameplay in various ways; be it doing spreadsheets for industrialists, EFTing for the min-max'ers or just joining a corporation to play with others and achieve things you can't on your own.

For me, running a POS in a wormhole has been the closest I've come to a niche. Gas harvesting, mining, ratting, small-scale production and the occasional 1v1 PvP. Only reason I stopped was that I go inactive for a few months each year and moving out and in got tiresome, and harder and harder as even the C1-2 grew crowded.

TL:DR – Keep at it, do whatever you feel like when you log on. Put the game away for some time if you don't feel like it, come back and repeat. Most people don't as much figure out their niche, as they stumble upon it eventually. And then, you're hooked :D

I think this aspect of the game can be overwhelming to some players. They are used to MMOs being a theme park where you are forced to stick to the main storyline. Not saying OP is one of those, but I've seen it expressed on the forums before.

This doesn't exist in Eve, of course, and for some people that's disconcerting at first. But look at it this way. What do you like to do in other MMOs? Craft? PvP? Market? You can find some aspect in this game which you enjoy in other games if you but look around a little.

In EVE the universe really is your oyster. It just takes a little more work to crack the oyster open and get the pearl. Just remember to look over your shoulder.

Theft, robbery, espionage and brigandry. Turns out you meet some really great people and lose the will to rob half of EVE.

The only way to find your place is to try out different player-run corporations. Try stuff until you find out which suits you the most.
