Also Eve would win. Eve would probably have a good crack at WH40K too.

Not that I'm a rabid 40k fanboy, but no. Just no. 40k is balls out OTT. Il not go into all reasons but neceons, chaos and the emperor means no, not even a dent. I love eve but when the crusade would have stomped the whole of eve fast.

Hey. Ever notice how most space genre's are white people in space. I mean there are of course some non white people but right now with China at 1.2 bil, India at .9 bil, Africa at 1 bil and South America at .4 bil the implications of most far future television shows is a little disturbing.

Was their a Nuclear War and the US and Europe were like the only ones left. Is there some bizarre kind of partial segregation going on. Like if the Enterprise hailed another Starfleet ship would there be like 8 Chinese guys to every 2 anyone else but they just happened to have not hailed any of them. Maybe a bunch of people had racial plastic surgery. Maybe all the Chinese guys decided to stay home and order takeout. I don't know.

Just something I think about whenever I see a space show. A bit easier to justify when it is like a really old show like the original Star Trek where having a few non white cast members was something people got offended over or excusable for AU stuff like BSG and Star Wars. Firefly hand waved by saying that a whole planet went to the Chinese so that is why they all speak the language and have all this Chinese culture goin on... made it weirder though that there were so few Asian people in the show.

Doesn't affect the plot for me but still, I find it noticeable.

Star Trek has the deflector dish that can do anything and a power plant, weapons and shield systems that appear to be far and away better than any of the other tech listed. Including that bigass SGU ship.

I'm going with Star Trek.

Ironically, I think all of the other scifi listed in the OP is better than the two I referenced above.

I think its because white people make up the bulk of the scifi nerd audience that natively understands English. My Japanese tv shows seem to beleive that everyone will speak Japanese and mostly be of East Asian extraction.

Its just tv being tv, Russians have them leading the way as does Doctor Who have a Britain that pretends it cant whip out Torchwood and conquor the word (cough* Great and Bountiful British Human Empire*cough).

Odds are really that the Russians will join the ESA and CERN, maybe the EU down the line, Canada is half in the ESA and Israel is joining CERN later this year. That will end up being the main engine of science for the next century most likely, Higgs Boson, Stemcells, Skylon/Saber engine ect

Oh I get that, I just find it odd they all always go mostly one race. I mean one language sure, they are all speaking space talk that happens to sound English or whatever.

I mean even if they are not "equally represented" in the main cast surely they can make up a solid % of the button pushers and walk abouts that run the ship in the background or live in the cities. Either that or take a moment to explain why they live somewhere else.

Just makes everything seem odd to me.

Huh, I thought the ESA would be funded better than NASA but it only has less then a third the funding.

The ESA doesnt have to do everything NASA wants to, and most of the NASA budget went of things like the space shuttle which costed 6-8 times as much per ton. The ESA is much more frugal, but since it hasn't made manned space flight its modus operandi its got a lot more done for every euro spent. Also, NASA subcontracts a lot out to the ESA.

Give the EU time to find its feet and it should be able to do great things, there seems to be more of a passtlion and willingness to fund pure science here than anywhere in the world, bar maybe Japan.

Ground: Dust514 clone mercs; cloning tech

Space: Star trek; shield phasing and phaser tech

Why is Mass Effect included in this list?

Meh.

The Culture would stomp all of the above, flat. Tech so far beyond anything previously referenced it would be like magic.

Disregarding The Culture...yes, Star trek would win from the OP's list. Warp drive, phasers, shields, photon torpedoes...remember, the original Enterprise could zorch a small planet all on it's own (was referenced many times in series). Safe to assume the later iterations are an order of magnitude more powerful.
