Is there any "hidden" bonus when completing a skill to Rank 5?

The biggest example would be salvaging 5.

You get T1 mod at L4 gets 5%x4 which is = 20% chance.
T2 mod at L5 gets 7%x5 which is 35% chance.

So L5 is 75% more then L4 due to the module.

That is bigger, but I've always been fond of EGU 5 here. It doesn't do much at all on its own, but the sudden availability of RCU IIs (50% better than meta 4) can open up a surprising number of its.

Another great one is Drones 5, since it allows training of the best drone support skills and the racial specilizations. Basically the difference between drone dps and drone IV and Drone V + an additional days traing maybe double damage.

As has been explained, it's just how percentages work. It's easier if you think about it in terms of damage you take.

See if you can follow this

Say a rat does 1000 damage per hit.

If with your current setup you have let's say 75% resistance, then you will take 250 damage.

Now you upgrade your skill to level 4, and you end up with a total of 80% resistance. You will now take 200 damage. If you look at it, at first glance you would say "duh" what's your point. Well point is, going from 75% to 80% resistance REDUCED THE REAL DAMAGE YOU TAKE BY 20% (from 250 to 200).

Now you train your skill to level 5, your resistance goes to 85%. Damage you take becomes 150 instead of 200. You've now decreased the damage you take by 25%, compared to previous rank that reduced the damage by 20%.

In short, the closer you get to 100%, every point of more valuable than the previous.
