How to loose a Marauder to NPCs... and how to avoid it!

After being fairly inactive for some time, I decided I wanted to play EVE tonight, and stream it on Twitch. I was running level 4 missions in my Paladin (Amarr Marauder) and decided it would be great to try and tank a more-risky-than-I-remember-it mission. Long story short, got scrammed and lost said Paladin, for a total loss of around 1.2B ISK. (was able to scoop the wreck)

So, some tips to newer players! Even though mission running becomes a mundane chore in a more expensive ship, it pays to always be aware and know about the mission you are running. Things can easily surprise you, especially if you haven't played for a while or are new. But, it's important not to get frustrated if this happens to you. EVE is a game of risk, and that's why I continue to love it till this day, even if I am horrible at it.

Now for the fun part!

You trained a marauder but never trained overloading? Or did you just forget you could overload your rack of lows for about ~50% more tank to kill those last drone frigates that were pointing you? What drones were you using?

The main mistake you made was at about 5:00 when you popped all trigger ships at once. Full spawn can overwhelm about any single ship and I believe eve-survival also mentioned to keep spawns under control.

That said, this mission can be done in balls-deep way. For that you require propulsion and floor it since the beginning and keep both distance and angular/transversal speed as high as possible.

Couple of random remarks:
- well trained marauder can lock 10 targets simultaneously, you locked initial spawn and started locking other ships only after killing this one;
- target priorities, tacklers first, obviously, but with high dps ship the Paladin is you should focus your guns on killing those who hurt you the most - battlehips in this case;
- yeah, like Qunotor said, when feces hit air conditioning, you overload.

P.S. Ah, I also didn't see what drones had you launched to kill those tacklers. If they weren't Hobgoblins II or Warriors II then there's one more thing you did wrong.

Well done! You spent all that time checking the eve-survival mission report, and still did just about everything wrong Big smile

I guess somone must be losing all those marauders sold every day, and this is a fine example how.

Micro Jump Drives still activate when NPC ships have a scram on you don't they?

I apparently have no idea what I'm doing.

And they say missions are risk free, yes they can become routine but if you make mistakes or as in his case been gone and missed some changes you can lose that shiny real fast I've had to pucker my but t a few times.

Well now I don't feel so bad when I lost my Drake to a scrambling NPC in the blockade mission, ouch a marauder.

Thanks for sharing and showing.

most of the time at least one of the strain frigs will point you, I try to kill them asap. plus if you had an overloaded fed navy web you probably could have webbed one of them down and killed it with your guns as it approached you.

and with that hardener setup you probably would have been better off with 2x IN EANM and a Damage control.

also I much prefer tachyons, as nearly the whole time all the NPC battleships were out of your mulifrequency range.

and for whatever reason warrior IIs feel useless in pve. I should probably log their actual performance at some point ah well I'm lazy.

If your Marauder is loose then you should tighten it up a bit.

Many strain frigates have 85% explosive resistance on their shields and armor. Its 79% to thermal, but bear in mind that the difference 79% to 85% is far more meaningful than the difference of 0% to 6%, and hobgobbies do more damage (if in doubt thermal drones are always reasonable).

The ideal way of clearing them is lasers or curators at range.

That was amusing to watch. A while ago i almost lost a Machariel in this mission after doing the exact same mistake.

Try deadspace fitted Dramiel. I'm sure you don't fall asleep.

Only downside is that eating popcorn and watching movies is a bit more difficult. Sad
