sound issue

I have returning soundissues as well, but a different one. When i do "look at" on other ships and that ship vanishes (docking, jumping), the sound engine crashes with a loud THUD. Turning it off/on doesnt works, i need to restart eve. Even the mixer does not show eve anymore.
And i think, havnt checked for 2 weeks, that the alert sounds (low hps/cap) are WAY to quiet.

Having that now which I didn't before - i.e. say I click look at on a station and rotate the camera at certain angles the sound will cut out entirely and along a narrow band either side of the angle that it cuts out sounds play but distorted, as I rotate/move the camera further away from the problem zone theres that "THUD" and sound starts working again.

I am having the same issue, and using three clients with individual settings so I can't use that POS launcher.

1. Start up game, no audio (not in mixer either)

2. Close game

3. Start up game, audio sometimes. If not repeat step 2 lol.

This gets VERY annoying when you have to do this on three clients to get started.

Win 7

Fully update and repaired clients.

Wow. That worked.

this issue is STILL ongoing, CCP, it's now been a month+ and a BASIC function of your game is still broken, and i don't even talk about all the other issues remaining, it's time to wake up, this cannot last.

and stop sending me mail about how one of my account is now unsubbed, that's because of your so called "expansion", so maybe sent it to the devs, they might care much than i do.

I have to start up each client and clear cache restarting pretty much every time now to make sure I have sound and then pray I don't do anything ingame that causes a loss of sound (generally around stations and structures) as once the sound goes while playing that seems to trigger all sorts of unpredictable issues with the client (basically like some kind of whacky desync). Its getting to the point I don't want to play as sooner or later I'm going to lose a ship purely because of it.

This issue has been pretty bad since Odyssey for me as well, but I've been having this problem off and on for a couple years now.

Prior to Odyssey it was something like a 1:10 chance for the EVE client to start without audio, and having the audio disabled or starting multiple clients up at once seemed to slightly increase the chance of an EVE client starting up without the audio engine. Since Odyssey, however, it's more like a 3:1 chance of starting the client without the audio engine which is a pretty major uptick. Likewise this problem has persisted through me "replacing" my onboard Realtek audio chipset with a Creative Labs X-Fi XtremeMusic I recently acquired.

Hopefully whoever, if anyone, that's looking into this issue will find just what in Odyssey made the situation worse for those like me who've been seeing this for some time and actually fix it, but I'm sure most of us will also take a reversion to the pre-Odyssey lower failure rate.

before Odyssey, the only audio issues i happened to have, was sound stopped working, and just unticking / reticking audio in property solved the issue (and it was very rare, like once over 2 month, maybe less), now, i sometime even play without sound, cause having to launch 10 time the game is not worth it, especially since more often, sooner or later, audio will go down again, and a clear cache is the only way to have a chance to solve it...)

as i said before, this is nothing to do with your audio device, since the game uses windows audio layer.

what i saw, is that at startup, most of the time, the game doesn't even ask windows for an audio session to be opened.

i do work in audio devices dev, meaning i have personnaly a lot of audio devices available to me (like 50+) and it does not matter wich one is used, the drivers or anything, whether it's my main comp (with all the audio devices) or laptop (with only the intgrated audio), the issue is still happening.

really, what will be the next issue? unable to undock? mouse not working? ccp => Can't Code Properly

That's not quite the same issue. It sounds(hah) like you have audio settings set to attenuate applications automatically when using a voice chat program. In the sounds control panel, on the communications tab, select "do nothing"

For those who have the issue with the sound system not starting and not showing up in the volume mixer at all, clearing the game cache does fix it for the next restart every time, but it breaks again eventually. Sometimes 10 launches later, sometimes two.

This is still happening, and it is very frustrating.

yeah, i CANNOT have sound on my 2 accounts actually, and i don't even bother having sound, i'm now spending more time trying to have sound than actually playing, this is ridiculous....

After running a repair tool. Not many changes have happened. I have the sounds like the click when i highlight modules and items in my wallet. The sound of the system scanner. The blips when you open the fitting tool. (Occasionally) the sound of stargate jumps. Ambient sound, music and other sounds still do not work.

I found something that works for me so I figured I would post it to see if anyone else has the same luck.

For sound not initializing at all at start:

1. Open the volume mixer before opening game

2. Launch from the eve (not the launcher)

3. Before the eve window shows up, click on the sound mixer and move it around

I am not sure why or how....but this has initialized the sound 100% of the time for all three of my clients

This actually works, but how ridiculous is it that I have to play around with the sound mixer every time I launch a client.

It'd be nice to see a Dev acknowledge the fact that this is happening, and that it is a result of the odyssey expansion and that they are actually looking into it.

Problem is still here, ignoring it does not seem to make it go away.
