Maybe I erred too much on the side of fantarsy. I don't mean to siggest we actually literally have the orcs from Riverwood or the dwarfs from Minty Mountain or wherever, in Eve. I'm talking about aliens! Nobody would complain if we had the alien's from Prometheus invade on mass. Probably you wouldnt even know these were inspired by Wow and the Horbit if you didmt know, they'd just be cool aliens.

And you cannot deny that fantasy is bery popular now. Look at The Game of Thrones for example. That had sonething like 2million of the viewing audience for the Red Wedding. Imagine if just a fraction of those fan's of George Carlin tried Eve due to knowing there was a fantasy tint to it. We could almost double our playerbase!

Most MMOs are fantasy based. Why not play one instead of suggesting CCP ruin it's game to make 10 Lord of the ring nerds happy?

Well we're all nerds of one sort or another, are'nt we? I mean, you like to play Eve, so maybe your a fan of Ian Banks Cultural novels like Consider Phineas and Looking at Windmills and suchlike. But I don't call you a nerd for that. You can read what you like!

Likewise, if people like to read the LOTR novelizations that's literally there business, labelling shouldn't come into it.

I'm now thinking of moar than just aliens to be honest. Dr. Who had a giant kind of space slug whale thing in one episode last year, why cant eve have the same? Its still scifi after all. We could have sort of space dragons, maybe, for the Monstroids to fly about on.

They would have to be called something else though because I think TSR owns the rights to 'dragon' and they might already have there own MMO.

Does anyone have a good suggestion for what we could call the space-dragons? My girl suggested Solarsaurus Rex but I think that sounds too much like a dinosaur and I don't think dinosaurs in space is very realistic.

I only see upside's to this, honestly. The markets there, CCP just need's to provide the content.

In the end it comes down to this and all the "my game is better than your game" equates to this.

WoW got there not because of whining about the competition, but because they just did it.

But carry on!

while I truly adore trolls, I like it more if they can summarize their message to say, 3'000 pages.

by the way: maybe ccp could win some more subs by licensing in Gangnam Style and killing all other sound for that.

Imagine Eve with perma-Gangnam...

Anyone here old enough to remember Spelljammer and how great that was? Not just elves in space, intelligent hippopotami mercenaries. In space.

This is one of the better troll threads I've read in a while. Not quite, but almost as good as Thomas Hurt thread.

I stand in awe, sir. I suspected at "flambeing" and was pretty much certain at "48 thousand subscribers," (thought the "I'm not a n00b I'm just starting to PvP" was a nice touch too) but when you listed Shadowrun, I knew you were quality stuff. Rest of the post was gold.

10/10 from the cranky, cynical British judge.

Obviously your not following the gaming the industry.

Wow answered the desire for a fantasy based mmo .

it answered it so well, that there is very lil room left for competing projects.
Those that are trying to compete with wow have all had to radically change their business strategy or attack the model from another angle because the player base is not there.

Copy catting or mimicking features from wow is not going to increase the subscriber base.

Apparently what gamers wants is digital items to spend their money on .
taking a look at kick starters and star citizen and shroud of the avatar and others . its clear that players wants digital goods.

another example is Activisions Sky Lander and soon to be released Disney Infinity .

Players want personalized content, they want in game avatars and objects that they can own ( i find this idea bizarre but it obvious that people will pay good money for digital items )

so the way forward for eve is not in adding on a fantasy based gimmick .

the way forward for eve will be through the creation of digital content that the players can not live with out .

this will be ship skins and other items that personalize eve for players, corporations , and alliances.

ccp then can expand these digital offerings into possible licenses that can be purchased for aur, and used to create cosmetically varied ships (they are no better than their tech 1 counter parts they are just a different model )

this will increase revenue .

increasing the player base is a bit more tricky but they already outlined the prototype .

walking in derelicts ala fps based exploration in the eve universe .

this is the way forward for eve , create a ton of content that has players exploring and fighting their way through various forms of space stations, abandoned star ships, and various wrecked structures and maybe even some of those brothels.

the second player increase will be through faction war fare and missions that require fps combat for point of control of strategic stations placed through out new eden . then expand this into 0.0 sov system.

The point being is add some variety to eves play style. (well with in the lore and flavor of eve)

it would be a mix of the current eve we know and love, with some new fps aspects that will be interesting worthwhile to invest time in .

and another increase would be from the participation of the player base in the construct of the items of eve, ala expanding the crafting system and allowing for player created items that will add flavor and variety to the eve markets for various in game content . clothes guns ships etc...

Regardless of what ccp does wowification is not the answer to many games have tried to copy or improve on the wow formula .

Many have failed while others struggle to stay above water in this crowded mmo market.
