So, last night Blackstar was setting up a cyno chain to moves various caps about. Normally, this is something I leave to my minions we were missing a link in the chain, so taking a Crane with a ship and cyno gear packed up in cargo, I jump out of our WH and head over to the waypoint.

Turned out it was 20 jumps away, but it was getting late so I started burning over as quick as was possible. I wasn’t until I hit a second lowsec pipe until I realised I may have made an error. Next jump in my route was Rancer. I’ve warned several of my pilots about this system before and plenty have lost various ships through there, ignoring the warnings after applying the “It probably won’t happen to me” principle. I applied the principle myself thinking it was late and avoiding it would take more time.

And that was when I jumped into the gatecamp. Remote sensor boosters obviously active on the insta-locking Loki’s and a quick d-scan showed a Rokh, which I can only assume was a smartbomber on my out-gate. Now, I knew getting away wouldn’t be impossible, but I’ve known plenty of people to have lost cov ops and pods to instalockers. I made it through nonetheless and to acknowledge my good fortune, I gave them a friendly wave in local. Imagine my surprise at the response!

I’ll be honest, I did laugh. I’m sure it was purely from the sheer incredulity I felt at these pirates not being the classy, monocle wearing sophisticates I had once believed them to be. It was a bit like that moment as a kid when you discover that Father Christmas isn’t real and all those letters you wrote probably went straight in the bin.
So the question: Is the sophisticated, gentleman pirate a myth or is this pleb the exception that proves the rule? Or is there a scale with the noble monocleer at one end and angry, pre-pubescent bottom feeders at the other?

He was clearly IC. Pirates are the worst RP of them all...I should know.

As for those camping Rancer... You are talking about the bottom feeders who do little more than catch and kill the lazy. Something tells me they are about as classless as they come.

Well look - you just did the duck-n-shuffle through what they felt (with some justice) was their private rice bowl. Then you pop up in local whilst the sting of missing was just setting in... I can understand why they might not be entirely charitible in their response.

Sure, a true class-act would've given you the cheery 'hi-ho!' in return, but class-acts are often distinguished by their very scarcity.
