Is this a joke?

Anslo; because of the pushback against Incarna, CCP hasn't been able to seed all of the vanity items through the NEX store for fear of triggering another backlash.

As such, they have a significant backlog of vanity items in the art stockpile that haven't been used. Marketing's been slowly using these for promotions.

It's not ideal, because I'm totally with you that all of this should be hinged on player industry-- but the unfortunate thing is that right now, there's no really easy way to hook in a player industry of tattooing and producing clothes, of all things. I doubt these vanity items will be player-producible until we've got more robust avatar-based gameplay, but that'll be something that will probably arrive from a gameplay-based approach where we start with avatar exploration, possibly avatar hacking/combat/boarding, and then we see those environments available for social interaction lastly.

Haha, here's a marketing idea for you, CCP: EVE Sims.

Build your family business on a space station in the Eve-O universe, selling vanity items and services to capsuleers.

Sirinda: Sims? You think too small!

I want ant colonies. I've got hundreds of livestock-- er, people, that need a place to live. Might as well establish colonies on temperate or barren worlds, right? ;)

You guys are hard to satisfy. CCP isn't a charity organisation, you can't blame them for trying out new stuff that might potentially raise their income, now or in the future. I for one am happy with my tattoo thingie. I'll just somehow need to source one for the other arm :)

The point is, this isn't stuff they've made for the Collectors edition, it's been lying around in the code since incarna, just like a whole load of other things, and instead of just putting it out there for us to get, they're restricting it to people who pay a stupid amount of money for their decade pack

This is like incarna 2.0, Is no one seriously aware of what they're doing? :p

Neutral state: no tattoos.
Good state: tattoos.
Double-plus-good state: tattoos and other vanity items through player industry -- even if it's LP store rewards.

Eve is the only game I can think of that has as much effort expended on clothing and avatar modifications without any actual way of showing them off to other people.

I know Incarna is a dirty word, but without multiplayer walking in stations there's no driving force to buy these virtual trinkets. The only time sleeve tattoos will ever be seen is when someone actually clicks "View Body" on your profile photo, in other words - never.

Valve had the right idea with hats in Team Fortress 2 - at least in terms of creating demand. Introduce virtual items to the game, make it so others are forced to see them (you can't turn them off on a vanilla server as far as I'm aware) thus making them have an intrinsic value. With the exception of the monocle and other facial items there is no reason to waste money on something no one will ever see.

That's not to say that I actually like hats in TF2, or virtual clothing & tattoos in Eve, but I can appreciate that unless other people are seeing you wearing them their value tends towards nil.

You have to think different here: If you want the tattoo, wait for the prices to drop. Just don't buy the whole CE just for the tattoo. Of course, marketing wants you to do that, I won't blame them for this (after all it's their job!), but I wouldn't blame CCP here.

At least I preordered the CE the day they announced it, because I love Eve and I want the art book and the other stuff. I don't really care about the tattoo, but I'll happily take it (just can't decide which one to pick). Would I like to have the full choice of all of them? Sure! But the world won't end due to this.

Also the golden pod: At first this sounded like a good idea, but the abomination visible in the game's lancher and (if I remember correctly) in the game, it's just horrible (and plain golden). Golden stripes or some paint job? Yeah! But just plain golden? Ugly. But anyway: When has been the last time you looked at a pod up close?

I just am going to copy what someone else said before: Send message to the podder saying: "150 points to Gryffindor!"

You can buy them on the market if someone decides to sell theirs.

I believe at some point we will make them available through different ways, but the pre-order people will be the only ones sporting them for some time.

Houm... so we paid 300+ euros in subcriptions since Incarna, and we still must spend more money to get something that's been done and shelved for a year?

I guess we moved from Walking in Stations to Waiting is Stupid... because I feel totally stupid even as I don't care about the tattoos themselves. Question

You've paid 300+ € to play the game, others paid 150 € for a CE, they haven't gotten yet (that now includes these items for them as well; in addition to the sub). Don't see the issue. In other games you'll have to pay for expansions or DLC, would you complain about having to buy an expansion, because you've paid a subscription as well?

How would you feel if you were told you would get something in a certain expansion, then when all the monument shooting stuff it was "soon™" then nothing for like two years, only for it to pop again on a totally different thing, that we need to pay out for?
Don't start using expansions being free as an excuse, this is stuff that's been in the game files for years, why should we need to pay now to get it?

I'm still waiting for Walking in Station, seriously, and yes, if they'd hide WiS behind a paywall, I'd be mad as well. But let's be honest, we're only talking about a minor cosmetic item you usually won't be able to see or notice anyway, unless someone explicitly adjusts their avatar image. And even then it's hardly visible in the default UI.

Thank you for the disclaimer. Regardless if they are rereleased in the future this will hopefully keep them within a reasonable price range much like the Gnosis which benefited from the future BP release. This also will help prevent an outrage like what happened with the Ishukones. I actually took a small loss with the Executor Red/Golds, but more than made up for them with a large pile of Sterling Whites that I held on to for about a year.
