Should my minmatar alt learn cruisers before mining barges?

So with so many things to do in EVE I decided to take advantage of the promo last month and started an alt for the sole purpose of doing the stuff that sounded really fun, but stuff I didn't want this toon to invest her time in yet.

Essentially my alt is focusing on industry, planetology, mining and exploring while this toon is working on more combat/support/mission running stuff.

But as my alt was progressing and I was getting annoyed with mining in a Burst while waiting the many days working towards getting Industry and Mining to 5, I saw that the minmatar have a cruiser with mining bonuses and I'm thinking maybe I should take a 1 day break in my skilling to have him work on training that cruiser as it'll be a lot better to mine in that than in the Burst.

Or should I just ignore that and keep him working towards that mining barge and eventually an exhumer?

I created Ave Molech and I love ponies.

I'm going to spoil the fun of finding out this on your own, but here goes. Mining in a mining cruiser is actually a bit more exciting and fun than mining in a mining barge or exhumer. Point being it still isn't very entertaining and it will only get worse not better. Your income from it will improve, but the activity becomes even more of an AFK inactivity. I'm just saying this before you invest weeks in training to be a miner. If it tickles you nipples, go a head and continue, but I would recommend spreading your skill training around until you find an activity you want to do with your industry alt.

I would suggest that you build a few modules, do some PI, mine a few days and do some exploration and scanning, if you haven't already decided on your final career path. After you've done all of that, you're in a much better position to know how you want to proceed and are less likely to regret the decision you have made later on.

Yes you should train minmatar cruiser, but for the reason stated by the poster above me, not for the reason of flying a Scythe.

[Unless you are for some reason entirely convinced that mining is the activity for you. If you are somehow entirely sure that mining is all you want to do in eve then it might make sense to train into exhumers first. However, even then at some point you will train Minmatar cruiser, albeit later.]

You see the Scythe is the ultimate piece of **** there is in the game. The CPU is horribly gimped, and CPU is important to fitting mining lasers. Also they gave it a drone bay of one lone light drone. Even the ******* Osprey of the Caldari, the race that is supposed to eschew dronage the most as preferred weapons gets a much better drone bay. So do not waste any ISK on a Scythe.

Train Minmatar cruiser because it will allow you to try some missions, or pvp (their real strength), as a possible change of plan. Train minmatar cruiser because it enables the Minmatar battlecruiser the Hurricane. It is not much more of an sp investment (gun sizes are the same). Trian some shield tanking (passive shield tanking) skills for your cruisers and battlecruiser. Those skills, and the drone skills, will help you competently fit a barge and later an exhumer that might have a chance of surviving a suicide gank if you decide to stay with mining.

The sp you sink into properly fitting a hurricane will not be wasted, even if not as much of an investment as tech II properly fitting the cane. These skills will allow you to do a little more in activities.

Also, aside from the BC, industrial (hauler), barge and exhumer, you may want to train frig 5 so you can get a cov ops frig for exploration. Additionally, if you go to null sec or wormholes your cov ops can act as a prober/scout to help your alliance in pvp engagements. Doing this will get you more respect from your corpies/alliance mates who will sometimes see a purely industrial character that doesn't contribute in any way to defense as dead wood.

Again, the Scythe is utter crap in comparison to the other races mining cruisers. Leave it alone. But the skill is worth training before going whole hog for exhumers.

edit- (Lol at me for not fully reading the op) Ok, if your alt is going industrial, then just go straight into haulers and barges then exhumers. However, it can help to train the alt in frig 5. You can dual box your alt as a scout for your main in many situations that way. The Scythe still being utter ****.

Imho yes you should learn cruisers 5, Strategic cruisers = Loki, takes not that long to then you can run missions for change or give pay back effectively to those bitches that ganked you Lol

It's an awesome ships, sure you'll have hard ime running lvl4's but since your alt is mostly industrial doesn't really matter.
