I WAS having an issue
I would click the EVE icon on my mac's pop-up menu, the game would start on the log in screen and then a pop up would immediately tell me I needed to patch. the server (located bottom right) would say unavailable (or something to that tune) and after clicking okay on the pop up It would then exit game, return me to my desktop screen, and do nothing.

THE FIX: I managed to get the game to work by launching EVE from my "applications folder" in finder.

TL/DR:
Launch the game from its file location, not a desktop shortcut.

nope, not helpful, still can't play, can't imagine what problem you had that this would be a fix for

I suspected that my shortcut on my pop up bar must not have been updated to run the new launcher because it would take me to the old log in screen instead of the new log in process, streamlining to character selection after logging in using the launcher.
I was able to access the launcher by starting Eve from "Finder" after finding it in my files and I hadn't seen it suggested yet Smile
