Hello,

I just started out a couple days ago and I'm working through the tutorials have done them all except the advanced combat line. I am looking for a little advice or nudge in the right direction on how i should outfit my first Mining ship. Any help would be greatly appreciated I am kicking my self for not joining Eve years ago as the craft systems looks to be fantastic and its generally what I do in all MMO's.

Thanks for reading,

Start with the basic Miner Salvager set up. Notice the drones are combat drones, not mining drones. Keep it that way. When rats attack, sic the drones on them, then use the salvager to salvage the wrecks. You can bring in a couple of mil/hr by doing this in highsec.

Now that you have that set up, join a corporation.

Also, FWIW, its not crafting, its manufacturing, we don't do quests, we do missions, we belong to Corporations, not guilds. Big smile

That site is a wealth of information, but of course, I am biased.

A couple of things to remember, that will make your life easier. You have probably heard them but here goes any way.

1) Do not un-dock in something that you aren't willing to lose. this includes ships, fitting and implants.
2) Join a Corp. - Seriously, do it now. You need friends that you can mostly trust.
3) PvP is not consensual. At some point, when you join a corp, fit out a frigate and go on fleet roams. it may not be your cup of tea, but you need to know how to handle a situation.

there is a ton and a half of information on manufacturing in eve .. i wouldnt bother trying to memorise it all as it boggles the minds of vets and new players alike.

the key things that i would state, in as much as i know what i am talking about, is do some basuic reading, Eve University would be a great place to start, get the basics into you head .. and then pick a good small starting place. Learn the ropes, dont worry too much about becoming a super star or even making much of a profit. The more you learn the ropes the more you will get a feel for what niche market you want to get into.

If you are not aware, there is Manufacturing and Research that can be done. And there are a lot of inputs for production .. at its simplest it is just minerals from mining, but there is also salvage, Planetary Interaction and Moon mining products which are used in higher level production.

As for mining fits .. 3 suggestions .. again you can google for suggestions, use a fitting tool of which there are several like EFT, and probably the best thing would be to join and industrial corp. Playing with others is the fatest way to learn the game, and have fun while doing it. A good production corp will probably help you with ships and equipment as well as training and setups.

Almost nothing i enjoy more in eve than setting up with my corp with a stupid number of high end miners, scouts, haulers, security and mining for several hours .. while shooting the !)#@ on Teamspeak. That we make a ton of isk while doing it is almost secondary.

Last point .. and this might be for further down the road .. but a lot of industrialist have mulitople accounts .. for example .. a few miner toons, a security toon, a hauler toon, and out of corp hauler / trade toon etc... Multiple accounts is almost a must- but of course nothing wrong with running one of course - it is a game after all and to be played as the player wants.

History is the study of change.

Toshiro - you are right there is ton of info out there on eve enough that is overwhelming for a total new player. I have been slowly pouring over it in addition to just cruising around in space heh. I figure once i complete all the tutorials and am a little more comfortable flying my ship I will look for a Corp to join.

Ned - as for your points you listed they are great. I only ever play on pvp servers in other games so I'm an old hat at getting ganked , camped etc I plan to outfit a combat ship and mix it up for a change of pace but my primary focus will be Manufacturing/mining. It will be like my old UO days running around with my mining picks and piles of ore trying to dodge pk'rs or in this case "pirates" heh its what makes games fun the adrenalin rush.

Thanks again for the help, People complain about the community here but my experience has been positive over all

We are all old, bitter, politically disillusioned and most of us in dead end jobs. Most of us have kids (playstation (b)rats) of our own so we don't tolerate them in game. Others got excited when Elvis developed a new kind of music and their parents hated it.. Watch out who you call what, it might come back to haunt you.

Reopen the EVE gate so we can invade Serenity. Goons can go first.
