How easy is it to get into Null Sec?

I'm wondering about having a poke around null sec (mainly for the high value exploration sites) and I'm wondering how hard is it to get into null sec?

I notice there are a limited number of routes into null sec and I suspect that it'll be very easy for those postions to be blocked by intradictors and gate camps. Am I correct in this logic or are these systems considered open to allow the various null sec corps to get back into high sec?

I am planning to get covert ops craft for this but I'd still like to know

There is no universal answer. Some routes are heavily camped, some are empty with occassional forgottrn bubble. If you were doing lowsec exploration, you will be able to figure out safer systems in nullsec too.

A covops certainly won't hurt.

However, I dip into nullsec a good bit to explore/rat/roam and have never really had a problem. Use the map to avoid systems with heavy recent ship destruction.

Not a forum alt.

It's way easier than you were led to believe

I had my first incursion on the last friday and I only got caught because I got too confident and forgot to follow some safety rules. I believe the most important part is to always check the map for the number of ships destroyed and players present in the system in the last hour, so that you know by advance where you can find trouble. If you do so you will see that there are A LOT of empty systems, I'd even risk say that half the systems in the game are empty. You have to be extra careful in the first one or two, but the rest are a piece of cake.

Also, always go in with an escape plan, like having a MWD for escaping the bubbles or a cloak device to hide. You'd also like to warp to 100km within the gates to check out if it's being camped and approach it at odd angles (like warping to asteroid belts instead of going directly from gate to gate in occupied systems) to avoid bubbles that might be placed midway. Keep an eye out for the local chat, as it will immediatly indicate if you have company. If you will stand still for too long and you're not alone, check the D-scan for combat probes.

I was caught because I tought it would be enough to warp to the gate directly from an odd angle, but what I learned that day was well worth the price of the frigate I lost.

Whenever I move from my home space into Great Wildlands (NPC) or even Geminate (Sov) I sometimes encouter a single gatecamp. Most of the time it's calm enough to push a warp-stabbed Battlecruiser through. Since NPC nullsec allows you to dock it's pretty trivial to switch out your fitting and so some PVE. Sure, some bottlenecks are heavily camped, in my experience hisec-nullsec jumps are very dangerous. I prefer to travel through lowsec for this reason. If you do end up on a bubbled gate there are many tricks to get past. A covops pilot that knows his ship should be able to escape a gatecamp relatively easy.

If you travel smart and cross check the lowsec and nullsec systems in your route against Dotlan as well as set up bookmarks for safes and bounces on each Gate in the system as you go through it, you should be ok. Setting up 3 safes and a bounce on the gates you come through and depart from will take about 5 minutes or less per system.

Fly Cheap and Fly smart and you will have a lot of fun.

Good points. To add to this, when you land on the entry gate and are still cloaked, pause, look around and warp to a (distance to a) celestial that isn't a moon, or in line with your next gate. Drop a bookmark mid warp. D-scan @ 2mil KM when you land. Then warp to 100km from the next gate (dropping a bookmark midwarp). This should keep you out of line from any potential bubbles. You will land on grid 100 km from gate. Get a visual (hit dscan again). If you see activity, split. If not, activate your prop mod and travel in a direction away from the gate that is at least 180km from it and drop a bounce bookmark. Congrats, you have 2 system safes and a bounce for that gate. when you travel through again going that direction, you can warp directly to your bounce and avoid any potential bubbles, as well as being far enough away from the gate to warp to 0 on it and jump.

Also, don't engage any single targets you see at any of the gates. They are probably bait.
