Haulers: Speed Vs Cargo

We all know that minmatar usually have the highest reguard for speed and that if you should choose to AFK haul that the fenrir or mammoth industrials and freighters are the way to go.

As for cargo, active hauling goes to the Iterons V and the Charon for huge bays but slower speeds in comparison.

If you Disreguard money literally maximizing skills, implants, hardwiring, equipment all for speed and leftover areas for cargo, would you be able to haul say 1 billion m3 of goods from one corner of high sec to another faster than another character specialized in the opposite manner; maximizing cargo first and leftover areas in speed.

Of course a billion m3 means several back and forth trips.

For Freighters and the sake of debating, let's race the two both with and without optimized (perfectly maxxed skills, items, implants) webber pilots. The idea is to find out which one will be able to haul more cargo faster and the cutoff point between hauling faster over hauling larger loads if there is one.

Thanks for any input and calculations. I very much appreciate it.

My understanding is inertia is the stat to improve. Lower let's you align and Accelerate faster. Which means getting into warp quicker, which shaves vulnerable time and transit tine. Velocity I personally don't go for because most of my time is warping.

Yes, you are correct. In this scenario, Speed is anything that can help you get into warp faster and faster warping speed. Also for afkers, velocity is applicable. Agility is the main attribute were looking at right now though as it deals in maneuverability. There is also hardwiring that can increase warp speed. I believe freighters can go 0.86 AU/sec.

I dont think you need a full on race to prove whats faster.

If the extra cargo space helps you cut 1 less round trip, then that freighter = faster.
If the cargo can fit in any freighter and only requires 1 trip total. (Or equal round trips for that matter) Then Minmatar should be the winner.

"Max Load" in general would = more ISK in the profit column. So slower speed but more ISK might be more relevent.

Here's what I'm talking about. After so many trips in the Charon, eventually a fenrir will be able to do it faster in more trips. Active hauling might be a toss-up on this but afk-hauling might have a fine line between which could be faster.
This is what I am looking for.

Time to align doesn't really matter when AFK, as you spend most of your time per system approaching a gate. All that matters is velocity and agility (to accelerate to max velocity faster, as you can't change mass or inertial modifier).

Example: An AFK Orca is slower than an AFK Charon (the slowest freighter), because a Charon has a higher velocity.

In general, it doesn't matter which freighter you use. You won't notice the difference unless you have a fleet of freighters. Example: At 10% speed difference, that's 10 round-trips to save the time for one additional round trip, or in other words a LOT of hauling required.

When at the keyboard (ATK), then acceleration (mistakenly referred to as "alignment") matters.

For what it is worth, I own 6 Charons. I only AFK when empty. I generally use a fleet to move mostly Tritanium and a much smaller volume of other minerals to be used for manufacturing.

I would say that those are worth quite a bit.... Big smile

I dont know if this is important or not, but i have chickens.....

All this presumes that there is no one on your route who's looking for a target.
The Fenrir, while being the fastest freighter also has the fewest EHP (172790 w. L5 skills).
The Obelisk offers the most survivability (202988 EHP) ... that's 30k EHP more, which could make a difference.

Thor Kerrigan did some research on this here: 100 Million ISK to kill a freighter in highsec.

I never really considered survivability, but for afk hauling I can see how that could be a concern. All of this is determining what I would use for non-stop continuous hauling for corporations. To get the highest amount of m3 transported at the fastest times. Of course, smaller freight loads would be fastest in a fenrir. But for long-term, multiple-trip hauling, this may or may not be the better choice.

Here's a small example: a fenrir can hold 900,000 m3 max. If you had 2.5 mil m3 needed to move, it would take 3 trips in a fenrir. Despite a larger hold on the Charon, it would still take 3 trips to haul all 2.5 mil m3 to a new location.

2,500,000 m3 being moved / 900,000 Fenrir hold = 2.778 (3 trips)

2,500,000 m3 being moved / 981,250 Charon hold = 2.548 (3 trips)

Since the fenrir has a better inertia/mass modifier, it would haul this faster. Now let's say we needed 5.5 mil m3 needed to move. This is what would happen:

5,500,000 m3 being moved / 900,000 Fenrir hold = 6.112 (7 trips)

5,500,000 m3 being moved / 981,250 Charon hold = 5.605 (6 trips)

As you can see, the Fenrir takes one more trip to move the cargo in this scenario. Making the Charon a more suitable choice. If I factor the obelisk and prolly the providence too, I'm sure we'd find that one of these two freighters could haul it faster than the Charon with the same amount of trips for this example.

I think I've gotten all the information I need for this topic. Thanks everyone.
