Tractor beams

So let me see if I understand this:

In the wonderful game of EVE I can: Lie, Cheat, Steal, Scam, grief, gank, talk smack, shot at anything I see (if i take the risk in hi-sec)and am generally encouraged (as evident in most marketing adverts for eve) to "be the villain." All things I can get behind and love...

All of that is fair game, but using a tractor beam on someone else's wreck.. that's where they draw the line..

How does this make any sense?

And before I get the slew of carebear "working as intended," I want to know "how it makes sense" with all of the stuff we can do in eve (listed above) that we can't tractor beam an unowned wreck.

Make it so that it flags me for PvP if I tractor someone else's wrecks, I really don't care.. this is just non-nonsensical that tractoring owned wrecks is the "holly grail" that your not allowed to do.

i actually like this idea, and while were on the topic of tractor beams (prob will create a new thread on this though) where capital tractors are able to pull in subcaps or tow capitals?

Of course the idea of a tractor beam pulling a subcap around totally wouldn't be broken by people using it to capture small ships so they could hit them with their over sized ship guns.

yeah, well when i hear tractor beam the first thing that pop's into my head is the tractor beam from star wars, i mean hell, normal tractor beams can tractor around a titan wreck for crying out loud, nothings more funny then watching a dead titan wreck flying across the field going 7 km/s

Yes but when you give this ability to affect a living, breathing person that is not dead or ejected from their ship, you then fall into the, the abuse area, what will people really use this for? Then you have to balance the entire thing based on the what if factor! The more what if factors you create, the harder it is to balance something.

/partybreaker

It can only go as fast as noctis can tractor it and that is nowhere near 2 km/s.

EvE-Mail me if you need anything.

--hijacking thread back to topic, tractor beams in combat can be discussed in another thread.

I want to discuss being able to use a tractor beam on an wreck I see, owned or unowned.

Great idea. It never made sense to me either. Does anyone know if you can tractor data or relic spew that isn't the direct result of your own can hacking or the hacking of a fleet/corpmate? If you can do that than you should definitely be able to tractor the wrecks of others.

If CCP were to add 20-30% webifier effect on tractor beams when used on ships - it'll become a good utility high and will go well with warp disruptors because of similar range. Fitting requirements and cap usage will limit its usefulness on most t1 frigs.
Instead of webifier effect a reduction of target ship's agility sounds also fun (will force small targets orbiting on low orbit to slow down a bit to maintain their orbit).

Opinions are like assholes. Everybody got one and everyone thinks everyone else's stinks.
