Chat Status Options (AFK, DND, etc.)

Just to clarify, this is not for local, that would be VERY bad.

So I had the thought the other day that placing chat statuses in game would be really useful and I am surprised that EVE doesn't already include this option. These could be shown or not in different chat channels at CCP's discretion but I think it would work very well in at least Corp/Alliance & private channel chat so you can see who is actually available to chat to. When you change your status you will get an icon next to your name in chat (or your name could change colour) to signify this. Here's a list of options I believe would be useful:

Busy - When set this status ignores all incoming chat invitations, duels, fleet invitations etc. To be used when you want to be alone for a while (possibly turn off all chat blinking too??).
Away - Set this when you're not at your computer so your mates don't think you're ignoring them. :)
Idle - This is an automatically set status that occurs if you have not made any mouse movements or keyboard strokes for at least 30 minutes, any movement/keystroke will remove the status.

Other options?

These could be implemented in any way CCP likes, via slash commands or a drop down menu on the chat windows.

Already suggested to a certain extent in posts in the last few weeks but I'm glad you didn't ask for it on Local though.

Overall I think this is a good idea but only if applied as suggested: Corp\Alliance Chats and NOT Local\Constellation\Incursion channels.

Busy: This can be accomplished by turning on auto-rejects but not for Fleet Invited (I don't think anyway).

I'll +1 this and see what others think.

Yeah I understand the issues with Local becoming more powerful for intel and don't want to mess with that. This should be purely for the social side of EVE in private channels/corp/alliance/etc.

The reason I personally would like the busy is because most of the time I do want to receive convo's and fleet invites however sometimes I go out and roam alone or do some other activity where I do not want to be disturbed for some short period of time and it's a pain to have to toggle these settings all the time.

Posting in an indirect nerf afk cloaking thread? Jokes aside, while I agree these options have some utility I don't believe they would be utilised that much unless options were chat channel specific.

Many people belong to several channels with multiple groups at any one time and a blanket status accross all channels would not be desirable. If a blanket status were to be set I imagine it would largely be disregarded for the above reason.

Blanket statuses might not be fully relevant, however after playing this game for many year I have found that new pilots often try to talk to people who are in alliance or corp only to be left with no reply. This isn't very intuitive game design and I feel it could only aid people since this is only in private channels.

So long as it is a manual setting, and not one that automatically flags you due to inactivity.

I would love to set myself as AFK in local, and just leave it like that regardless of what I am doing.

I don't think this is appropriate for local since local is already such a stron gintel gathering source. I would purely like to see this as a social tool for those in private channels or within a corp & alliance.

idle timer is already exist in inside the client at monitor window

23:27:00 svc::gameui notice I am now AFK after being idle for 601 seconds.
23:28:31 svc::gameui notice I am no longer AFK after being idle for 691 seconds.

next thing is to extract this info (log server?) to be used on a 3th party application?

but ya I'd like to see this option public corp/alliance/standing wide Big smile

Yeah exactly, set by standings/channel would be really great. No need for the AFK cloakers to get all antsy, this is for private use only to improve the social side of this game. :)

I'll +1 this one. I know it would be extremely helpful to me personally if I could set myself as afk or busy in my channels. I must admit though... most that know me just assume I'm afk anyway. Blink

I would like it a lot more if you could have a short text displayed as well that would make it a lot more flexible when you mouse over the dnd/afk icon of course it would have to be settable per channel but a global option should not be missing either

I'm thinking it should look like this
button in the channel settings "set status" (could be its own button I guess enough space)
window pops open with the ability to select one or several of the channels you are in from a list by ticking a box next to it
select an icon from a short list and type in the message you want to have displayed when clicked on the icon

sample message: "at the shop be back 15min"

I'm for this as long as it doesn't put anything in local. No one outside of your alliance/corp/personal chats needs to know your status.

He noted it wouldn't apply to local, and reading the TL;DR it was implied the user can set this, so if you are AFK cloaking...don't use it.

I'm pretty good at spotting the indirect attempts to nerf cloaks and AFK cloaking, but I don't think that is the case here.

I believe BACON was shut down for intercepting the Logserver transactions if I'm not mistaken.
